The paper target less than five metres a
away stood intact.
“Um.‘ Kira tried to look around for the bullet.
Did she hit a tree?
Laughing, Damian took the Glock from her. “The gun’s not loaded.”
“What?”
“There’re no bullets in it. What you did was dry firing.”
“Uh, why?‘
‘It’s your first time handling a weapon. I’m not going to give you a loaded gun. We’re just learning how to hold the gun and pull the trigger. If you want to learn how to shoot at targets, we’ll need another lesson.”
Damian pulled back on the slide and showed her the chamber. ‘See? Empty.”
“What about blank rounds? Kira asked. ‘You know, like the kind they use in movies. A lot of bang, but no
damage.‘
Damian shook his head. ‘Like you said, blanks still create quite a bang. You’re not wearing earplugs. I want you to walk out of here in one piece, including your hearing.”
“Oh, I see.” Kira nodded.
“Now, show me how you pick up a gun.‘ Damlan set the Glock down on a long wooden table covered with handguns and pistols.
Kira tried to recall what he taught her earlier.
The sun was out in full force today.
Kira was soon sweating
Damian noticed Kira fanning herself with her hands. ‘Let’s take a break‘
He led her to a shady spot under a majestic ginkgo tree, where a table and two chairs had been set up.
An attentive waiter served drinks and cut fruits.
“Thank you” Kira nodded at him politely.
be slaked her thirst with a glass of ice–cold lemon juice.
“Miss Hewitt, Damian spoke when she put down the glass, ‘do you know a person by the name of Gideon Garner?”
Kira’s hand froze mid–air
There was a buzzing in her head.
Did she just bear Gideon’s name?
The lemon juice worked too fast, sending a chill into her bloodstream.
The motion jolted her back to reality.
She forced out a smile. ‘I don’t know what you are talking about.”
Demian kept his eyes trained on her face, which had gone pale.
He offered a smile. “Never mind. It was just a random question. Forget I ever asked.‘
Kira tried to forget it, but couldn’t.
She was suddenly thirsty all over again.
She licked her dry lips. “May I ask why you wanted to know?”

He’s A Killer

Damian leaned back in his chair, twirling the unloaded Glock around his trigger finger like a cowboy. ‘I know a guy called Gideon Garner. I happened to see a photo in his wallet once. It was of a young girl, taken some years ago. The girl bore more than a passing resemblance to you, and Gideon seemed to cherish that photo a lot. So I got curious.‘
Kira’s head was whirling.
She gripped the edge of the aluminium table. ‘Maybe I just have one of those faces. You know, Miss Average.”
Damian handed the Glock to the waiter standing nearby.
He stood up. ‘Austyn must be getting impatient now. Let’s go.”
“Sure.‘
Kira followed him, her mind a mess.
‘Where’s Giana?‘ Kira asked.
Austyn was leaning back in his chair, sans sunglasses.
He didn’t look at Kira. ‘She left.”
To go where?!
