With the wind from the air con, her cotton t–shirt was almost dry.
Luckily, she didn’t get any water on her pants.
“Who was that on the phone? Kira asked, looking out the window.
She tried to keep her voice as casual as possible, as if it was just a random question and she didn’t care about the
answer.
She sat on her hands, so Austyn wouldn’t see they were shaking.
The inside of the car was quiet.
She’d heard the caller’s voice.
It was a voice she’d never forget.
The shock of hearing it on Austyn’s phone was what caused her to spill the water.
But it was simply impossible.
It couldn’t be Gideon.
“Why?” Austyn tilted his head to look at her.
‘Just curious.‘ She gave a shrug that she hoped was nonchalant.
“What’s his name?‘
“How do you know it’s a he?‘
Kira rolled her eyes. “I’m not deaf.”
Austyn pinched her cheek with two fingers. “Checking up on me, hmm?
He’s Just Her Type
Kira and Giana were getting, bored when Luca finally came back.
Both girls‘ mouths hung open when they saw him.
The captain now wore a beige vest over his t–shirt, tactical gloves on his hands, and a pair of safety goggles.
A pair of earmuffs hung around his neck.
Slung over his right shoulder was a long black rifle.
Luca, satisfied with the girls‘ reactions, struck a pose like the Terminator, looking quite badass.
‘Is that a real gun? Kira got out of her seat.
Giana had stood up as well.
Both girls surrounded the captain, eyes on the formidable–looking black stainless steel barrel.
It wasn’t just guys who were attracted to weapons.
Luca removed the rifle from his shoulder and pointed its muzzle at the floor. ‘This is an AK47 assault rifle. Want to give it a try?‘
Kira swallowed and shook her h
head.
She would love to, but the weapon looked quite intimidating.
Up close, it was larger, longer and heavier than it appeared at first.
‘Is it real?‘ Giana poked at the solid–wood stock.
It looked like a prop in action movies.
‘Of course it’s real‘ Luca smirked. ‘It weighs 4.3 kg when loaded. I bet you can’t carry it.”
Giana looked at Kira.
Both saw the excitement in each other’s eyes.
Austyn was less than five metres away when he heard Kira’s voice. ‘Wow! It’s real! And so heavy!‘
She sounded thrilled.
Her face was flushed, her eyes sparkling with delight.
She carried the stock while Giana held up the barrel.
