Every muscle in her body screamed. 

Her knees threatened to give out any moment. 

But she couldn’t give up fighting.

The sight of Austyn holding a gun to his own head thrilled Sean beyond words could describe. 

He took an involuntary step forward, eager for the finale. ‘Do it now!‘

Kira bent her knees, slipped out of his chokehold and ran towards Austyn. 

‘Shoot him!‘ she shouted to Austyn 

Austyn’s gun hand whipped up 

‘Boss!‘ Ronald scrambled down the stairs towards Sear

He fired the gun 

Two loud bangs rang out almost simultaneously 

Austyn’s bullet hit Ronald in the shoulder. 

Ronald crashed into Sean, the Impact knocking both to the ground

Kira spun around in time to see a man falling. 

Time seemed to slow down around her. 

She watched blood spray out from the wound in his chest, forming a red mist in the air. 

She watched his knees buckle as if they could no longer support his weight 

She watched his handsome face contort in pain 

His eyes were on her as he collapsed. “Kira… 

Blood gushed out of the wound, staining his white shirt bright red. 

Kira thought she was moving, but she wasn’t 

She could no longer hear a sound. 

It was as if she had suddenly gone deaf. 

She smelled the sulphurous gunpowder. 

She tasted the bitterness of her tears. 

She felt the vicarious pain as if the bullet had penetrated her chest as well. 

Pain immobilised her. 

Fear suffocated her. 

Her mouth was open in a si

When his body struck the concrete floor, the dull thump shocked her out of her trance. 

“Gideon! Gwen’s heart–wrenching cry pierced the still night air. 

Kira screamed. 

She swayed on her feet, then she ran towards Gideon’s prone figure on the floor. 

‘Gideon!‘ She cradled his head in her arms. 

There was so much blood, forming a shallow pool around him.

A group of people rushed in. 

The nurse at the front desk shot to her feet. 

“What’s going on? 

A woman in a torn and bloodied red dress grabbed her arm. Please help him! He’s been shot!! 

“I need a gurney over here!” The doctor on duty was with them in an instant. 

He helped transfer the patient from a police officer’s back onto the

Kira’s face, neck and arms were covered in blood.
