Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 756

Chapter 756

“You’re indebted to the Johnson family, so why did you frame Tom?”

When Harold heard this, the dazed look on his face instantly disappeared, and a fleeting look of panic flashed across his eyes under his glasses. “Miss Grey, just as you said, I’m indeed indebted to the Johnson family. How can I repay kindness with ingratitude?”

“So it was unintentional of you to introduce Tom to outsiders in private and collect bribes for him after he left?”

Her tone was casual, but every word fell into Harold’s ears, making his heart sink uncontrollably. It was as if he had been soaked in ice water. His entire body turned cold and his face involuntarily became pale.

He clenched his hands on his knees silently into fists. His throat was dry and tense. “How did you know…”

Rachel saw the panic on his face, but she did not bat an eyelid. She supported her forehead with her fingertips and glanced at him indifferently. There was a hint of disdain in the corners of her eyes. It was as if she was looking down at an ant. “I have my ways, of course. But have you ever thought of the consequences of offending the Johnson family?”

Her voice was calm, but there was a chill in her words. “Or rather, when you attacked the Johnson family, that person didn’t tell you the consequences of touching the Johnson family.”

Harold suddenly looked up and met Rachel’s dark eyes.

The woman’s eyes were cold and filled with mockery. It was as if she had seen through the secret in his heart. It made Harold feel as if he had fallen into a vault of ice. In an instant, he was rendered speechless.

After some time, he struggled to find his voice from his nervousness and unease. “Why do

you think that I’m the one who framed Mr. Johnson behind his back? You should know that Mr. Johnson has held a high position for many years. Be it his friends or so-called confidants, they’re mostly just united on the surface but separated on the inside.

“Besides, do you really think that a simple report can put Mr. Johnson in danger?

As Mr. Johnson’s assistant, I know very well that we’re bound together regardless

of what happens to Mr. Johnson. No matter what happens to him, I won’t be able to escape. In that case, why should I frame him?”

His analysis was logical, and no one could find any fault in his words.

However, Rachel ignored him.

She placed her fingers on her forehead and smiled slightly with her crimson lips. However, there was a terrifying coldness in the depths of her eyes, making Harold feel inexplicably uneasy.

“I’m just curious. What benefits did the other party promise for you to keep your mouth shut like this?”

Hearing this, Harold’s eyelashes fluttered. He lowered his gaze in a panic to hide the guilt and uneasiness in his eyes.

He thought that he would be able to deal with the woman after Lucas left, but it was obvious that he had underestimated Rachel.

This woman’s thoughts were truly unfathomable. It was as if she had seen through

-all his secrets..

“Miss Grey, I’ve said everything that needs to be said. As for whether you believe me or not, it’s all up to you.” Harold raised his hand and pushed the frame of his glasses up the bridge of his nose. “Miss Grey, you’re still young and can’t see, through the nature of human greed. Sometimes, you can’t just look at the surface. A person will become numb once he develops a habit, and once they’re numb, they’ll want to seek excitement.”

In other words, he was implying that Tom was secretly taking bribes for the thrill of it.

“I won’t argue with you about this, but there won’t be a next time. It’s getting late. I’ll leave first.”

Seeing him turn around and leave, Rachel chuckled. “Did I say you could leave?”

Her tone was light and indifferent, but it was extremely chilling.

Harold’s heart gripped.

He had to admit that he had an unprecedented fear of this woman at this

moment.

He turned and looked at Rachel.

Coincidentally, she looked up at this moment. Her clear almond-shaped eyes made. Harold’s pupils dilate. She looked like a wild beast staring at its prey.

He held his breath. It was as if a hand had grabbed his neck, and he could not make a sound for a moment.

Rachel sighed softly. There was a hint of distress in her tone. “It’s not just that I haven’t seen through human greed. I’m afraid Tom has also seen through it. Otherwise, why would he keep an ingrate by his side? An ingrate that colluded with outsiders to frame him. If we had known earlier, the Johnson family might as well have adopted a dog back then. Don’t you think so?”

Harold’s expression suddenly changed. He felt as though someone had grabbed his heart. He squirmed.

His intuition told him that perhaps Rachel knew something.

He clenched his fists tightly at his sides and said nothing.

In the long silence, a layer of cold sweat broke out on his back, gradually wetting his shirt.

“You’re a student that the Johnson family has been sponsoring, and you’ve been well-behaved all these years. Tom has a good impression of you. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have kept you by his side. However, you used his trust to steal his seal. and forge his signature. You’re really bold.”

Hearing her words, Harold couldn’t hold it in anymore.

At that moment, many thoughts flashed through his mind. In the end, he only said. weakly, “I-I didn’t…”

He really couldn’t figure it out. He had done those things without anyone knowing. Even the investigation team couldn’t find out he was the one.

But how did Rachel know?

He suddenly felt that the woman in front of him was like a beast in a pure and harmless disguise and that she could tear off her disguise and swallow him at any time.
