Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 170

Chapter 170: Regret (2)

Gabriel hated that the king no longer accepted his request for a private talk. Even when he managed to get a glimpse of the king in the palace, the servants around the king claimed Darius was too busy even though Gabriel knew he wasn’t.

What happened to the king helping him to rise above Xavier?

Has Darius changed his mind?

Gabriel hated to think that he would soon be forgotten with the king not acknowledging him. All the celebrations for the war were dying down so if Gabriel didn’t do something grand soon, he feared he would be a forgotten hero.

Gabriel failed to make connections in the palace since he didn’t appear to be a man useful to others. Had Darius given him a bit of attention then the other men in the palace might think it was worth getting close to Gabriel.

Gabriel struck the target again, this time shattering it. "I’m still stuck," he grumbled.

The king gave him money which helped to afford this new status Gabriel thought he had and the job in the court paid a decent amount but Gabriel wanted to be well recognised in the palace.

"No," Gabriel shook his head. "The kingdom should speak my name. I need another war to win."

Gabriel wanted to remind everyone he was their hero. They could not ignore him if he brought the kingdom two victories.

The issue was that Gabriel had not heard of any more trouble for the king to send out his soldiers.

"The attacks," Gabriel remembered.

The town guards were failing to find the humans responsible for the attacks. If he could somehow capture all the humans behind it then the king should reward him again.

When that time came, Gabriel wanted a better position than he had now. Instead of working in the palace, he wanted to be a lord. It was the only title fitting for him.

Gabriel smiled as he imagined the result of his plan. He would be the first mixed-blood to hold a title reserved for only purebloods. His peers would flock to him then.

"Where can I find those bastards?" Gabriel wondered, thinking about the humans.

He had ignored the trouble they were causing but now he was curious about everything said so far.

Gabriel turned around to look at where Cassandra had gone back inside. It would be easy to use her to speak to other humans to find out any clues about the attack but he knew she would be too scared to get involved.

"What does she do throughout the day?" Gabriel asked himself.

Cassandra had yet to learn how to run their home. It was a simple task considering she had servants at her fingertips to carry out her orders and a butler to show what was expected of the lady of the house but Cassandra hadn’t fallen into that role.

Their home seemed to be on a downward spiral since-

Gabriel frowned.

Gabriel hated to admit that since Selene left nothing seemed to be in order here. He gave Cassandra grace since she was far from home and getting used to her new life here but he could only wait so long.

Cassandra was doing her best but soon her best would not be good enough. Gabriel did his part by providing so Cassandra needed to do her part.

"She needs someone to teach her," Gabriel decided.

Had the incident with Selene’s maid not happened then he could have had Selene teach Cassandra all that she knew before she left.
