Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 172

Chapter 172: Regret (4)

Eugene got what he needed seeing that the pair wasn’t so together on what occurred that unfortunate night. With the current tension between vampires and humans around the kingdom, Gabriel might find himself in hot water if he killed a vampire over lies from his wife.

Incidents like this ruined the other marriages with one vampire and human partner. The court would go on to say that vampires and humans shouldn’t mix yet it was the purebloods who created mixed-bloods.

"That is all I needed to know. I will visit your father to have a word with him and then I will get back to you about the final judgement. Please be mindful that you might have to come to me and your ex-wife might be there. If you feel you cannot be in the same space as her, I will make other arrangements," said Eugene.

"We can get along with Selene. Aside from what happened with Lucinda, we don’t have any reason to trouble Selene. Please do what you must to find out what happened to Lucinda. I am unable to rest well at night because her attackers still roam free," Cassandra said, reaching out to touch Eugene.

Eugene thought Cassandra should worry about herself since Gabriel looked like he was going to snap at any second. As much as Eugene would like to help her, it wasn’t his business to get into the arguments of married couples.

They needed to figure this out themselves and if more truth about what happened that night came out then it was better for him.

So far, Eugene believed that Gabriel unfairly killed a vampire without a good reason. The proof was Gabriel’s reaction to what Cassandra said.

"I must leave," Eugene announced.

Cassandra walked to the door to see Eugene off. "Please be safe on your way back."

Gabriel stood in the same spot, waiting patiently for Eugene to leave their home. He couldn’t have Eugene hear anything more to place Elsie’s death as a wrongful act. The next time Eugene came, they would get their stories straight but first, there was something to address.

Cassandra returned to Gabriel’s side and assumed from his expression that he was angry a guard came asking about a maid who didn’t matter. "I’m sure this will all be over soon."

"You lied," Gabriel said.

"What? I didn’t lie to the guard," Cassandra replied, once again keeping her distance from Gabriel. "I fail to believe there isn’t something I did earlier since you have come home and acted strange to me. Please tell me the truth."

"Either you lied to me or you lied to that guard. Regardless of the answer, you shouldn’t have lied. Selene’s other maid is still alive. He will go to her to question what took place that night. I didn’t know about the choking and I am sure she will say she didn’t see it happen," said Gabriel.

Gabriel wanted to grab Cassandra’s shoulders to shake her. Why couldn’t she have just said what happened?

Cassandra wanted to laugh. Here she was adding to the story so the kill would be justified yet he couldn’t keep quiet in the moment to not appear suspicious.
