The next day, Selene set out with Xavier for a ride around the town without a plan. Selene hadn’t thought of what they would do today. She simply wanted to get out of the estate and spend more time with Xavier.
Selene tried to focus on the scenery outside the window rather than the man staring at her. Eventually, Selene couldn’t handle it anymore and turned to face him.
"Why must you stare at me so long?" Selene asked, his previous answer still lingered in her mind but she had to ask again.
For Xavier, the answer was simple. "You are beautiful. Should I not admire your beauty?"
"Perhaps take glances," Selene suggested.
"You want me to look like a fool sneaking glances at my wife? Perhaps I shouldn’t call it that since it is what you do to me. It would be silly to think I hadn’t noticed you trying to be secretive with your stares. On a good day, I might sit in a way to entice you," said Xavier.
"I do not sneak glances at you," Selene responded but her guilty expression gave her away. She already confessed to doing it but her first response was always to deny. "Well, I."
"Oh, then I am wounded," Xavier touched his chest, feigning hurt. "How is it that I sometimes get dressed before you, but you are not curious to sneak a look? Did you not get a good look the last time we-"
"Please," Selene stopped Xavier. "Lucas and the coachman can hear you. I want to be able to face them when we exit the carriage."
"Are you asking that I cut off their ears?"
Selene had a feeling Lucas was panicking where he sat. "Please never consider doing that. You are right that I sneak glances at you. I shouldn’t have denied it but I try not to fill your head."
"Why? You should want your husband to feel good about himself. I like knowing that you are attracted to me. By my stares and words, you know that I am attracted to you. It is not wrong to make your spouse know they are wanted," said Xavier.
"I know it isn’t wrong," Selene said, aware she should let him know. She only wanted to stop how much he watched her because his gaze alone filled her with thoughts which were not appropriate for inside a carriage.
Selene touched her face. The smallest action from Xavier gained the biggest reaction from Selene.
’A carriage is an uncomfortable space,’ Selene repeated in her head.
While Selene was lost in her thoughts, Xavier pulled the shades so no one outside could see inside. This caught Selene’s attention along with Xavier moving to sit beside her.
"They can hear us," Selene reminded Xavier.
Xavier didn’t care what anyone heard.
"I will buy stones and place them along the carriage for future purposes," Xavier replied.
"Future? Why does it sound like you are certain we will need them for a carriage?" Selene wondered. She was curious yet worried about what went on in Xavier’s mind.
Her thoughts about him might be innocent compared to what Xavier thought about her.
"If only you could see your face now. Your curiosity is why I know we will make good use of this carriage. Stop thinking about them," Xavier used his hand to have Selene look at him after she looked forward to where Lucas had to sit with the coachman. "Lucas isn’t a stranger to this. He is a womanizer."
"What!"
Selene looked to her right again after hearing Lucas’s voice. "That tells me that you were wrong and they are listening to us. Unless you plan to have a carriage that moves by itself then we won’t ever make use of this carriage." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
