"No!" Vivienne yelled, trying to move forward to help Xavier, only to be held back by Michael. "What are you doing? We can’t just stand here."
"You going over there will only create a shield for Darius to use to hide from Xavier. You’ve done enough for now, don’t you think?" Michael replied, letting go of Vivienne’s hand. "Xavier doesn’t need help. Did you miss where he revealed he has two weapons?"
"But," Vivienne said, still worried something might go wrong. "If Darius lands a blow, Xavier will not heal from it."
Michael watched the two purebloods dodge each other’s attacks. "I already spoke of this with Xavier, and he is hellbent on returning home to his wife without any injuries. If there is anyone who can get out of this without injury, it would be Xavier."
Vivienne did not like the mention of Xavier keeping himself safe to avoid worrying Selene. She was now reminded of the fact that Xavier had someone waiting for him, and when this was all over, she would be all alone.
This was to go differently.
Vivienne once thought that any time Darius would die, she might be able to rekindle what she had with Xavier, but times had changed.
It was wrong, but a little part of her hoped that Xavier might also die as well so that no one would have him.
’No,’ Vivienne did not like that thought. She panicked each time Darius got too close to Xavier.
Vivienne didn’t want to see Xavier die. She wouldn’t be able to live in peace if she lost him tonight. If they could fix their friendship, there was always a chance that something else might blossom once Xavier was reminded of the past.
On the other hand, Xavier kept dodging Darius’s attacks, purposely tiring out Darius, who did not realise it was his intention.
There were many openings for Xavier to attack Darius, but it would also cost him being injured by Darius’s weapon.
While Xavier had a way of healing, not worrying Selene when he returned home was not the only reason he didn’t want to be injured.
With others present, should news he was injured get around and then it appeared as though he had healed, it would raise questions Xavier didn’t need for his family.
"Stop moving," Darius said, frustrated that Xavier would not properly fight.
The way Xavier ran in Darius’s eyes was even more proof that Xavier was scared. If only the court were here to witness this.
"Fight me properly," Darius said, carelessly aiming the weapon at Xavier in hopes one attack would land. "You have two, yet you won’t fit me. How have they tried to say I was weaker than you?’
Xavier saw an opening, so he faked an attack with the weapon in his left hand, drawing Darius’s attention there and made his real attack with the weapon in his right hand, stabbing Darius in his chest.
Xavier released the dagger before Darius could respond by stabbing him now that he was close enough. He did not regret leaving the weapon still stuck in Darius’s chest, as pulling it out increased the chances of him getting stabbed.
Darius ignored the new wound created by Xavier and continued his relentless attacks to finally stab Xavier. If he could stab Xavier just once, then it would even out the odds despite his being stabbed twice.
Darius had murder in his eyes. If anyone thought he was going to die alone, then they were wrong. All three of the bastards around him would die before he did. No one was going to steal the credit for the change he did for this kingdom tonight.
