"I have not come here to fight with you, Lord Blackthorn. I am only asking questions which are important to clear your name if you had no part in killing the king," said Eugene. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Eugene trusted that Xavier would be so crazy as to attack the town guards. A fight wasn’t what he came for, so he had to keep Xavier calm.
"You suggesting that I might have been having an affair with the queen is fighting words for me. Anything which can affect my marriage is a danger I must get rid of. Like always, you have come here with no evidence," Xavier said, opening up the gates.
"I must look into everyone who had issues with the king. It is nothing personal," Eugene said, but he couldn’t convince himself.
As soon as he heard the king was killed, Eugene first thought of Xavier. It became quite well known that Darius wanted Selene and given the horrible past between the two men, it made sense to come to Xavier’s home.
"I wish I could believe that it was nothing personal. I have allowed this nonsense to go on far too long. It shouldn’t need to be said, but it turns out you are not smart enough to know this. Do not come to my home unless you have evidence that I have done what you accuse me of," Xavier said.
Xavier continued, "I will not be so kind as to let you leave after you bring this trouble to my home next time. Go from before me while I am letting you get away in one piece."
"There’s no way for you to kill us unless you have holy weapons. Do you have holy weapons? You are not allowed to have holy weapons, Lord Blackthorn. They must be sent to the palace," Eugene said, hoping he had something to take Xavier in for.
"There are other ways to kill you without a holy weapon. Ripping your head off is a good start. You have now gotten back to your place leading the guards. I advise you to hold onto it. I have no more time for this," Xavier said, turning around to go back inside.
The next visit from Eugene would not have much chatter since it would be time for Eugene to die.
Eugene watched as Xavier walked away from the gates. He could do nothing for now since it was agreed upon by others that the queen took revenge on her husband.
Still, Eugene was going to look into what happened to Gabriel. Why did he suddenly disappear, and where was his wife?
"We shall leave for now," Eugene said, deciding to return to the palace to get more answers.
Hours later in the palace, Natalie paced back and forth as she waited for news of who would be the next king.
She could not celebrate that from her little group with Vivienne and Juliana, she was the only one to live since Darius was dead.
Natalie had no one to support her inside the palace with Darius gone. What would become of her?
Natalie touched her belly.
Her unborn child should guarantee her something. All her efforts to enter the palace as a woman of the king shouldn’t be for nothing.
Natalie wouldn’t allow it.
