After arriving, Amelia dragged her feet as she followed behind Simon and Elsie.
Every time he glanced back, Amelia would look at him with tear-filled eyes. This made him feel sorry for her.
"Are you hungry?"
"A little. How about I treat you to a meal?" she offered.
Amelia only had one request, and Simon couldn't bring himself to refuse.
They went to a restaurant she had found online. The prices made her wince, but she gritted her teeth and ordered anyway.
When Elsie returned from the restroom and was about to sit down, Amelia spoke up.
"Ms. Appleton, why don't you head back to the hotel? I'd like to talk to Simon alone. After all, you don't know what happened between us."
Was Elsie being dismissed?
Elsie turned to Simon, but he didn't look at her. Instead, he agreed and said, "You must be tired. Go back and rest."
Nothing was going on between him and Elsie. She had just been pushing herself into his life, but they weren't even a couple.
Elsie suppressed her anger. "Fine. Mrs. Fitzgerald and Sarah are arriving this evening. I'll go pick them up."
Once she left, Amelia immediately ordered a bottle of red wine.
"You don't have to drink. I just feel like having a little to celebrate," she said. "I didn't think you'd actually let me come along. Thank you, Simon."
As she poured herself a glass, tears started falling, and she kept apologizing. Her words were laced with admiration and longing for Simon.
"I wish we could go back to how things were before. If we could return to our childhood, would things be different?"
Amelia drank one glass after another.
Simon frowned. "Stop drinking."
She chuckled. "Then, will you drink?"
"Okay."
He had been having trouble sleeping anyway. A little alcohol might help him sleep.
As he poured himself a glass, Amelia raised her glass. "A toast to you."
Twenty minutes later, she almost dozed off before the doorbell woke her.
The hotel staff brought the remedy inside and left.
Five minutes later, Amelia was holding the half-spilled mug of remedy at Simon's door. She knocked, but there was no answer—he was likely already asleep.
"Excuse me," she said to a passing staff member. "Can you unlock this room for me? My friend drank too much, and I need to bring him this hangover remedy. You saw us come in together earlier."
The staff member verified their identities. After confirming they knew each other, the staff member used a key card to open Simon's door.
"Thanks."
Amelia stepped inside and locked the door behind her with a soft click.
In the dim light filtering through the window, she looked at Simon, who was fast asleep on the bed. Then, she slowly began to undress.
Once undressed, she approached Simon and gently pinched his cheek. A trace of venom still lingered in her gaze.
"Simon, you used to curse me… You thought I was disgusting."
In that case, she would drag him down with her.
