“It wasn’t her! It was me!” Ruby’s composure shattered as she pointed at herself repeatedly, her voice rising. “Suzy, I’m the real killer! Why won’t you believe me?” 

“You and I both know the truth better than anyone,” Suzy said, her voice calm but sharp. A small, knowing smile played on her lips. “And besides, Charlotte has already confessed.” 

“She’s only taking the blame to protect me!” Ruby argued desperately, “I’m her sister. She’d never stand by and watch me die!” 

“Do you remember when you told me you never reunited with Charlotte?” Suzy’s smile deepened into something more cunning.

Ruby’s pretense crumbled, and she snapped, “Fine! Yes, Charlotte is the one who killed them! But your family deserved it.” 

“Deserved it?” Suzy’s brows furrowed, anger simmering in her voice. “We took her in from the orphanage, gave her a better life, gave her a chance to rise above. My parents treated her like their own. In all the years I remember, they were nothing but kind to her. So, what could we have possibly done to deserve this?” 

Ruby’s face twisted with hatred. “Your so–called noble father was just a hypocrite. Treat her like a sister? Since when does a brother sleep with his sister?” 

Suzy’s heart clenched, but she kept her composure. “Did Charlotte tell you this?” 

Ruby stiffened, her confidence faltering. 

Suzy’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “You know, Charlotte told Mark something entirely different. According to him, she claimed she killed my family because she loved iny father and couldn’t have him. She called it unrequited love. Sounds to me like she’s been feeding you lies just as easily as she’s lied to everyone else.” 

“That’s impossible!” Ruby shouted, shaking her head vehemently. “She’s my sister/ She’d never lie to me!”
