Chapter 0341
When the red wire was pulled, the bombs around them remained inactive, and Suzy finally felt a wave of relief wash over her.
Exhaling deeply, she wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead. “It’s over.”
Ruby let out a long sigh of relief as well. “That was terrifying. I really thought-”
Boom!
Before she could finish her sentence, an ear–splitting explosion erupted behind them. Both of their expressions changed instantly, especially Suzy’s.
Without hesitation, Suzy instinctively shielded Ruby behind her. Her protective reaction left Ruby with a pang of guilt.
A person’s character would be most evident in moments like these. By all rights, Suzy didn’t need to care about her safety. Yet she acted without hesitation.
Though their time together had been short, every moment reaffirmed Suzy’s kindness and integrity. Ruby’s guilt weighed even heavier on her chest.
Another explosion went off directly in front of Suzy, startling them both. Without thinking, Ruby threw herself forward, pushing Suzy to the ground and covering her with her own body.
Luckily, it was just one bomb, and its power wasn’t as devastating as it could have been. Suzy, shielded beneath Ruby, emerged completely unscathed.
But Ruby…
Suzy didn’t need to see the damage to know how bad it was. Ruby’s labored breathing told her everything she needed to know.
Suzy gently eased Ruby off her and froze when she saw her back torn and bloodied. Her heart clenched painfully.
Clenching her fists tightly, Suzy said nothing. Instead, she crouched down in front of Ruby and spoke firmly, “There’s a small opening from the blast. I’ll carry you out.”
Ruby remained motionless. “The bombs seem to be going off one at a time. Leave me. Before the next one explodes, you need to get out of here!”
“You just saved my life. How could I possibly leave you behind?” Suzy insisted, urging her. “Get on my back, or neither of us will make it out alive!”
Ruby still refused to move. “I didn’t save you for your sake. I was redeeming myself. Everything you’ve been through is because of me. You owe me nothing.”

She gave Suzy a weak push. “There’s no time left. Go!”
Suzy stumbled but quickly steadied herself. Without another word, she grabbed Ruby’s arm and hauled her onto her back.
Ruby resisted with what little strength she had left. “I’m too badly injured. I’ll just slow you down. Please, leave me.”
“Stop arguing!” Suzy snapped, forcing Ruby securely onto her back and sprinting toward the small opening.
When they reached it, Suzy set Ruby down and gestured toward the narrow gap. “Start crawling out. Hurry!”
Ruby gasped for breath. “I can’t move. You go
first.
