Chapter 0434
“You mean that man? I bought him because I felt sorry for him. You have no idea–his face was completely disfigured, covered in terrible sores and pus. You couldn’t even tell what he originally looked like,” Selena explained in a soft, gentle tone.
“My parents raised me to help those in need, so when I saw him in such a pitiful state, I decided to buy him.
“I even wanted to find a doctor to treat him, but he refused. After that, he left on his own, and I have no idea where he went.”

Her explanation sounded sincere, but neither Suzy nor Victor believed a word of it.
“Listen, little miss,” Victor said with a sharp edge to his voice. “I don’t have a great temper, so don’t try playing games with me. If I find out you’re lying, you won’t like what happens next.”
Selena’s face turned pale. “I’m not lying. I’ve told you everything. If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to ask around.”
Suzy, however, wasn’t so easily convinced. She discreetly conducted her own investigation and confirmed that Selena wasn’t lying–at least not directly.
But Suzy still felt something was off.
Everything Selena said seemed too well–rehearsed as if she had prepared for this interrogation. Her repeated emphasis on the man’s disfigurement only added to Suzy’s suspicions. It all felt like an elaborate attempt to hide his true identity.
“I’m almost certain Dylan is with Selena,” Suzy told Victor. “Keep someone watching her at all times.”
Victor nodded in agreement. “That girl might look innocent, but she’s the textbook
example of a manipulative wolf in sheep’s clothing. I’ve had my doubts about her from the beginning.”
A 24–hour surveillance team was assigned to monitor Selena, but after several days, nothing unusual turned up.
Selena’s life was surprisingly simple. She spent her time shuttling between her home and the café she owned. It turned out her recent trip abroad was to personally source coffee beans for her shop.
Her routine–split neatly between two locations–seemed perfectly normal.
Victor began to doubt himself. “Could we be wrong? I’m starting to think Selena might not be lying. If Dylan were really in her hands, she wouldn’t have gone so many days without slipping up. Maybe he really did leave, like she said?”

Suzy frowned slightly. “Whether it’s Maya Whitmore or Selena Thomas, it feels like someone is deliberately orchestrating everything, pulling the strings in the background.” Victor nodded, the same thought crossing his mind. “I’ve been meaning to say it—I think we’re being played. And the one behind it is likely working for Claude.”
