Not sure if she was really safe, She reached for her phone and dialed Cole and Debbie in a group call, putting the phone aside, at a safe pace on her desk. 

Hailey rose to her feet as Connie approached her. She couldn’t help but notice that there was something off and weird about Connie’s look. Connie was never to be caught unfresh. She was always with expensive dressings and jewelry but right now, she looked like someone who was on the run. 

“How did you even get in he….“Hailey was saying and then it hit her when Connie began to take off her scarf and her disguise wig. She had told the security of her office building not to let Connie in ever again but she knew it was Connie because she lived with her so she could recognize her, anytime, any day. Even right now, when she had a 

long ridiculous dress on. 

“Don’t you fucking come near me!” Hailey glared at Connie when Connie was a few steps away from her.” 

“You bitch!!!!” Connie came to a halt. 

“Why are you here and how did you even get in?” Even if she successfully passed the securities, Hailes wondered how she passed the receptionist on her floor. 

“I have my way, you idiot! I’ve been running things before your fucking existence and I wouldn’t let you ruin it for me.” 

“What is your heart made of again? Cast Iron?” Hailey said, not believing her stepmother’s gut as she couldn’t even find any trace of remorse or guilt in her. 

“You are so full of yourself that you think you can boss everyone around just because you own a shabby company!” 

“I won’t let you stand there and talk down on my hard work especially when you are nothing but a crazy piece of shit who has never known the meaning of hard work since you’ve lived all your life stealing from people.” 

“Don’t you dare talk to me that way!” Connie raised her voice, glaring at her. 

“Shut the fuck up, you bitch! You keep calling me a gold digger when you are the actual thief!!!! What sort of an insane mother are you? You let them beat up your daughter to the extent that she lost her baby, you stole from her, you ruined her life and most importantly, you ran away just like the coward you are! You still have the guts to show up before me. You should be ashamed of yourself.” 

“Is that what that bitch told you?” 

Hailey chuckled in amusement. “Wow! So you can be this brutal to your daughter, calling her a bitch! You are definitely a terrible person!”

“You are not Vanessa’s mother?” Hailey asked in disbelief, wondering how that was possible since the resemblance between Vanessa and Connie was very obvious. 

“Don’t be dumb. I never said I didn’t birth Vanessa. She’s just not your sister. Of course, your father believed she was his. But I was dating someone else then. I really liked him but he was poor. He couldn’t give me the life I want so I had to pick your father over him.” 

Hailey had to lean against the table for some support as she was scared she was going to pass out. 

“How could you? How do you even sleep at night?” 

“Oh, trust me, I sleep like a baby. I have nothing against clearing people off my way to get what I want. But you are the only one giving me issues right now.” 

“What did I ever do to you?” 

“Vanessa defamed Cole, he did nothing to her but she defamed you and then, you suddenly ran off to the cops, requesting for the money you know we don’t have.” 

“That’s what happens when you mess with me! I’m not Cole and I will make sure you all pay for all the way you’ve treated me. You can’t keep doing evil and getting away with it.” 

“You are nothing but a brat! I didn’t know you would bring so much discomfort to me. Because of you, I’m hiding like some criminal. I would have left this fucking country since but I can’t make it pass the airport.” 

“Of course, you’re going nowhere! We’ve had enough of you and it’s high time you paid for your sins! I mean, what did my family ever do to you? You ruined your daughter’s life and the best thing you can think of is to run off? For fuck’s sake, you murdered your Grandchild.” 

“I’m not here to explain myself or my actions to you. I sacrificed so much for Vanessa, she wasn’t ready to do things my way so I had to deal with her.” 

“Sending people to beat her up to the extent that she lost a baby and abandoning her? Are you sure you gave birth to her? Because a mother would never do what you did!” 

“Oh Please don’t preach to me or tell me how to run my life. You are no different than I am. I risked my life for that fucking Vanessa! Her birth father is a mechanic who hardly makes 500 dollars per month. How were we going to survive with that?”

“I’m not joking here! You wanted Vanessa, now she’s in custody. You should be blamed for the death of her child. She wouldn’t have lost the baby if you didn’t threaten to sue us over some ridiculous amount of money. This was 

all your fault.” She pointed at Hailey. 

Hailey moved away from the table, taking two steps closer to Connie “You are insane if you think you can guilt trip me! You and Vanessa brought this doom upon yourselves and you all are going to pay for every hurt you’ve done 

to me!” 

“And No, I’m not withdrawing any case against you! The action was initially against Vanessa and I couldn’t be happier that you got involved. I didn’t do anything. You implicated yourself and it’s time to turn yourself in to the police.” 

“You bitch!!! If I knew you were going to be a threat to my life, I would have gotten rid of you just like how I did to your mother.” 

Heavy tears clouded Hailey’s eyes at what she heard.

Connie rolled her eyes. “Not like she was of any use anyway.” 

“You bastard!” Hailey approached Connie. She hit her really hard against her cheek, then went ahead to drag Connie’s hair.
