Chapter 136
Kaia's POV
The answer was very hard.. by the time she was done talking, with me still standing a few feets away, I came to the conclusion that she was definitely making things up. There was no way I could've healed someone at the age of six and even if I did, why didn't I heal my mom?
“Because she was already dead." Lylah said.
“I know it sounds made up, but I couldn't leave you in the care of your father." She started again, “if he knew about your ability, he would take advantage of it, putting your life at a risk.”
"My mom would've believed you.”
She shook her head, "she didn't want to listen to anything I had to say that involved you.” She said, but that didn't sound like my mom but she wasn't here to defend herself.
“The thing with your Dad wasn't supposed to be anything, I was just going to get information about you from him…”
I snorted, "you fell in love.” I said with so much disgust in my tone.
A smile that didn't reach her eyes appeared on her face, as she met my gaze. The woman in front of me didn't look like the one that took my Dad away from me and made my life miserable, I didn't recognize her. But after dealing with Luna Clarissa, nothing fazed me about her own pretense.
People don't change easily, they can only pretend to and even that doesn't last long before their true color comes out.
“I never, will never love your father." She said quietly.
It felt like cold water was poured over me as chills ran through me. My eyes glaring at her. "You should've stayed out of our lives.” I snapped at her. The veins in my neck at this point were so close to popping.
“Bella," Kieran's voice called.
“You have no idea how bad I wanted to stop when I noticed my actions were hurting you…but I didn't mind being the bad person as long as you were safe.” Her eyes fell to the floor.
I scoffed, "you want me to believe that, when you never put any effort into making me feel welcome in my home?”
"Where are you, Bella? Are you okay?” Kieran asked again when he didn’t get a response the first time.
“I'm fine. I'll see you soon." I told him.
He hesitated before closing the mindlink. I turned back to Katherine, the anger I felt building up as she spoke toned down a bit after hearing my mate's voice.
“Nothing I say now would justify how badly I treated you while claiming to protect you." She apologized. “My behavior influenced Dylan to do the same. To him, being mean to you would take my attention away from you."
I froze, “you knew? Did you also know he was helping me escape?"
She smiled sadly, “He doesn't know this, but yes. Leaving the pack was the only way you could fully maximize your abilities. Aiden was supposed to be a stepping ground for you to meet Alpha Kieran."
To say I was shocked, confused and mad at the same time was an understatement of how I was actually feeling. Without so much as another word to her, I turned around, and went straight to the pack house, ignoring the Pack members.
I didn't bother announcing my presence as I pushed the door causing everyone in the office to turn to me. Kieran had a worried look on his face, and almost immediately, the others left.
“Are you okay?" He asked, caressing my face gently, unconsciously easing some of the tension I was feeling as his eyes roamed my body for bruises of any sort.
I nodded, not trusting my voice to not betray me. He didn't believe me as he raised his brows.
“I'll tell you when I'm awake." I assured him.
He led me to our room, a different one from where the attack took place and held me in his arms, his body providing warmth which calmed me and for a moment before I finally drifted off to sleep, I focused on just being with him and not the conversations I had.
