Ian's fingers gently massaged her hand as he held her close, softly patting her back.
"Maja, why don't you get some rest?"
Maja’s brow furrowed as the scent of the incense filled her nostrils once again, causing her irritation to boil over.
So much so that she didn't even want to think about Jolin's situation anymore.
"Did you get this incense from Phelps? Did you ask for it?"
"Yes, I saw that you were having trouble sleeping and thought he might have something that could help."
"Ian, could we have this incense checked by a professional? I feel uncomfortable smelling it."
She didn't dare mention that she had also smelled the incense at Mr. K's place. She owed Phelps a favor, and if she planted a seed of doubt in Ian's mind, their relationship would never be the same.
She would become a villain in her own story.
Holding her throbbing head, she barely managed to whisper, “I just want to know what's in that incense.”
Ian thought she might be allergic to some ingredient, so he promptly had Jeff take the incense to a testing facility.
An hour later, the report came back. The incense was made of calming ingredient.
Ian specially read the report to her.
"Is there a particular ingredient you don't like? I can ask Phelps to remove it."
Relieved that the incense was harmless, Maja felt her heart finally settle.
But she could tell something was off. She was irritable and increasingly suspicious.
First she had wounded Ian and now she had slapped him.
Even when Jolin was desperately explaining how much Ian adored her, Maja couldn't hide her growing resentment.
She wanted to lash out at Ian, to mock his supposed affection.
This was so unlike her usual self.
Could love really make a person's jealousy so ugly?
She reached up to touch his face.
"Is your cheek swollen?"
"No, don't worry."
Jolin had been taken away, her belongings removed. She had cried, caused a scene, and even threatened to take her own life. But when she looked into Ian's cold eyes, she was filled with fear.
It finally dawned on her that if she hadn't resembled Maja, she would never have been close to Ian.
But she wasn't willing to admit defeat.
She had been content with being a substitution, but never expected the real Maja to return.
As she left, she glared in Maja's direction, her eyes filled with jealousy.
But Maja, who was now blind, was unaware of all this. She was suffering from a splitting headache.
For a moment, she felt Ian’s voice was close, but for another, it was at distance.
"Ian, maybe you should find a therapist for me."

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
