She’s made it crystal clear, and Jan wasn’t any dummy; he should get her drift. 

Carlene’s even thinking that once she’s back, lan might just have a little chat with his current wife and see if she can step up to the plate. 

As long as she decides to stop giving him the cold shoulder, that spot in the Raymond family will be hers. 

Grinning, she checked her phone, her gaze landing on a photo of her and lan. 

In the photo, lan was still young. Years of feelings weren’t going to be wrecked by some Johnny–come–lately. That person was just a bit player. 

Just as Carlene put her phone down, the phone rang. It was Dana. 

Every few days, Dana gave her a call, updating her about lan’s recent happenings. 

“lan’s been getting on really well with a desigher. I don’t trust that designer.” 

A while back, Dana mentioned this designer! 

But Carlene has faith in lan. He’s been straight as an arrow all these years with no scandals. 

So she didn’t think much about the designer Dana mentioned. 

“You should come back soon. I think that woman has taken a shine to lan. I’ll keep an eye out for you before you come back.” 

“Don’t sweat it, Dana. Ian’s only got eyes for me.” 

Dana thought of that woman’s face and still felt worried. After all, she was quite a looker. 

But since Carlene was so confident, she didn’t say anything else. But she really didn’t like that woman; she gave her the creeps. 

Maja spent the night alone in the hospital. When she woke up in the morning, the slap mark on her face was still there. 

The man from last night had put his all into hitting her; she was still a bit scared thinking about it. 

She took out her phone, ready to call the cops, but found that the police had already contacted her first. 

Maja was surprised, then she thought, lan’s people probably brought in those two guys. Their crime was sloppy; it wouldn’t take much for the police to investigate. 

“You’re Ms. Pennyfeather, right? These two have confessed. They were hired to hurt you.” 

“Officer, I just want the person who hurt me to be punished. You probably know who’s behind it. I won’t accept any under–the–table deals. Please handle this properly.” 

“Alright.” 

After the short conversation, Maja checked out of the hospital. 

After a whole night, the effects of the drugs had worn off, but she still felt weak.
