Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2109

Beck had always been the one throwing around sarcastic remarks, but now the tables had turned, and the person mocking him was none other than Dave, someone he had always looked down on.

He had spared Dave back then, only because of Fitch Haskins, but clearly, Dave had no gratitude.

Beck let out a dismissive snort, placing the bucket of water beside Dave, and then turned his attention to Stella.

"The Moore family situation is sorted out. Come back to North America with me. I'll make sure you're well taken care of."

Before Stella could respond, Dave chimed in.

"What do you mean by 'taken care of'? Are you just going to dump her on someone else and let her fend for herself? If that's the case, Mr. Sanders, you shouldn't have come all this way, giving false hope only to snatch it away."

Stella lowered her eyelashes, softly calling, "Dave."

Dave shrugged, continuing to water the ground.

"Mr. Sanders, do you even know what I'm doing here?"

Beck had no idea. Were they planting vegetables?

Everyone around here seemed to be growing their own food since the nearest town was quite a distance away, and bartering was the norm.

"Planting vegetables?"

"No, flowers. Stella mentioned how beautiful the flowers were at your estate, and she hoped to have some bloom here as well. Look around—everyone else is planting vegetables, but she wants flowers. She's all about living in the moment, not just surviving."

A pang of discomfort hit Beck. He enjoyed flowers, but had always left the gardening to his staff. And he hadn't realized Stella liked them too.

He lowered his gaze, wanting to say something more, but Dave was already ignoring him.

Beck turned to Stella, who seemed uneasy, her eyes fixed on the sunset.

"Stella?"

He called her name again, and Stella took a deep breath.

"Beck, you should head back."

"You should come with me. This time, I won't leave you to someone else."

But Stella knew if it weren't for Dave's earlier words, Beck would have still passed her off to someone else. He never truly intended for them to be together.

She forced a bitter smile, realizing there was no point in expecting anything from Beck anymore.

"No need. I'm doing just fine here."

Beck was getting frustrated. He had come all this way, thinking he was offering her a better life, and now she was saying she was fine here?

This place was so barren—what was so great about it?
