Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 243

Chapter 243

Mr. James thought he had his approval and immediately went to tell Maja, but she just turned her head away.

“Thanks, but the tow truck should be here soon, I’ll just wait. Plus, I need my car. If it’s fixed today, I’ll have to head back to Greenfield

Mr. James had noticed her shivering and wanted to offer her a spot in the warm car. But hearing her response, he backed off.

The closest tow truck would only take twenty minutes to arrive. Maja stayed outside waiting, sneezing uncontrollably.

Mr. James went to explain the situation to the directors in the car and also informed lan, who just closed the car window, not giving a damn.

Twenty minutes later, the tow truck arrived. Maja got on, following the truck to the mechanic. It was her first time on such a vehicle, and the driver was a hoot, so she relaxed a bit, watching the scenery go by.

Several cars trailed behind the tow truck, heading into town.

At the mechanic, it took another half hour for her car to be up and running again.

Maja paid up, went to the neighboring pharmacy to get some cold medicine, popped a few pills, then planned to head back to Greenfield. But then Susan called. Maja glanced at the phone, and without hesitation, hung up, then hit the gas.

Susan sighed at the sound of her call being disconnected, watching Daly smoking in silence next to her.

In the house, Olivia was still making a racket, calling Leo good for nothing. Leo stared at her belly, and bit back several retorts in the making.

It was four in the afternoon when Maja finally made it back to Greenfield.

She was basically running on fumes by then, she wanted to go home but was afraid of running into that crazy woman who had been h Leo. She wanted to go back to Rosewood Manor but was worried that lan might also return to Greenfield.

In the end, she decided to get a room in a hotel, and specifically avoided the one lan had been staying at.

After a bath, she popped a few more pills and fell into a comfortable sleep, finally feeling a bit more like herself. Since her phone was off an charging, she had no idea what was going down in the Pennyfeather family.

Neil’s health was in a bad state. He’d been in the hospital these past few days and decided to go home that night without telling anyone. Cristina had told him that afternoon that she was planning to stay in the hospital for a week, and both Tricia and Glenn were out of the house.

Neil didn’t bother calling them.

When he opened the door to the living room, he found it devoid of the usual staff. Neil furrowed his brows. He didn’t recall giving the staff the day off, so where were they?

He went to the second floor, only to hear voices coming from his bedroom, Cristina’s voice.

“That old man’s got liver cancer, and he won’t last long. The doctor says he’s got a year tops. Once he’s gone, the company’s ours. He wants to give Maja shares, and we need to nip this in the bud, or it’ll be too late when Maja comes back from Crystalbrook Valley.”

Nell was frozen stiff. He couldn’t believe his ears, a rush of anger that was almost enough to bring tears to his eyes.

Then he heard Carter’s voice

“You’re a real piece of work, even Neil’s been fooled by you.

“Do you think I would’ve stuck around him this long if it weren’t for you? You even watched me cozy up to him without a hint of jealousy.”
