"I never agreed to that," I say firmly.
"Of course, your majesty," he chuckles. "If you're ever ready to..." he doesn't finish that sentence nearly as forcefully as he started it. It's more like something cut him off.
"Carson?"
He doesn't say anything, and his silence worries me a little.
I push him away to look at him and he doesn't resist. He stares down at me, and there's a something in his eyes I've never seen before.
"Carson?" I touch his arm. "What's wrong?"
He pulls my hand away from him. He hesitates, then he moves my hair away from my neck. I flinch as he traces my skin where Aiden's lips were. His touch follows where Aiden moved, all the way up to my lips.
I take a step back before he can rub his thumb over my lips.
"His scent..." he whispers. He can barely say it.
"I was going to-"
"What kind of fight were you having?" he asks incredulously.
My eyes widen. I don't know what to say.
Silence takes over. All I hear are the noises from the gym. All I see is him looking away from me.
All of a sudden, he starts talking. "Axel and Aiden were thinking we could all hangout after school to discuss... us. " He looks at me from the corner of his eyes. He scoffs. "Whatever that means."
"It means something," I say firmly.
He keeps talking over me. "I didn't think it was that necessary. I thought you could be clear about what you wanted."
"I can be clear," I say. "It's taken me some time to figure out what it is exactly that I want, but I've never tried to give any of you an answer before I was prepared. I've tried to be as honest and as clear as anyone could be in such a weird, unpredictable situation."
He shakes his head. "You can't be clear. You lie and you keep lying."
