Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 129

He still doesn't spare me a glance.

I open my mouth to say something, but the sound of his name dies as quickly from my lips as it started. I feel like I'm just wasting my breath, and that hurts.

I look away from Aiden and at Axel. I squeeze his hand a bit. I'd love more than anything to ask him to be with me right now, and hopefully he'd say yes, but first I need to address the main cause of me being in this hospital bed. Carson. "I'm gonna start with Carson, okay?" I tell Axel.

He looks between me and Carson. His grip on my hand tightens. Then it loosens. I was afraid he'd react like this. He looks disappointed, and it makes my heart break, but he nods. "Okay... Can I ask why?" He looks at me.

I'm more than ready to tell him it's because I'm fighting with Carson, but Carson beats me to it. "I'll tell you why, Axel." He looks too pleased with himself. "Because I've been waiting for this kind of personal recognition for a while. So," he rolls his shoulders out. "Give me and my mate a second, alright? Thanks."

I let Carson go on his little diatribe about how he's the neglected one while I gesture towards the bed and the medical setting to Axel.

Realization dawns on him. He nods and lets my hand go, gently. "Well don't hold back. He's been waiting for this kind of personal recognition for a while now."

I give him a warning look, which he reciprocates with an expression of feigned innocence. I turn to Carson. "Alright, Carson, let's talk."

"Let me cut you off right there." He sits up straighter, smiling. He takes both of my hands into his own. "You don't even need to ask. I do."

Omg. I try to pull my hands away. "Carson, I'm not being romantic. We need to talk about our problems."

He looks like a deer caught in the headlights. "What? Why me first?"

"Because our fight was the most recent," I say.

"But you've had more fights with Aiden."

I glare at him. Aiden glares at him too.

Carson scratches the back of his neck. "Okay, okay. Let's talk."

I become aware of how awkward it is to have this conversation in front of the others. It's hard to form my words with their eyes on me, on us, but I have no choice. "Ideally we'd have this conversation alone, but it seems like nothing's private around here so." I shrug.

"It's fine," Carson says. He looks at me hesitantly. "Honestly, I have no excuse for my behavior. I'm sorry, especially if I stressed you out or caused you any of this pain." He gestures to the bed.

"Carson," I start.

He keeps going. "I was just... jealous I guess. When I found out you kissed Aiden, it was bad, but the fact that you told me nothing happened..." He shakes his head. "I just... It made me feel so..." He can't even say it.
