Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 157

He looks at his brothers and Onai before responding. "We just... detained them."

My mouth falls open. "That's even worse!"

"How do you figure that?" Cason asks.

I look straight into his eyes. "If they turned against you that's one thing, but if they just couldn't do it, they just couldn't do it. You're punishing them for having a conscience." Am I in the freaking twilight zone right now?

"No we're not," Aiden says. "We're just making sure that their conscience is from a good place, and not trying to kill you or the rest of the pack." He looks away from me. "But you're right. Next time we'll just throw open the borders. Better everyone die in here together."

I roll my eyes. "That's not what I said," I say. Is he seriously doing this right now?

"No, don't worry about it." He crosses his arms. "It's not like I consider things."

Wow, he really is. I rub my forehead, sighing. "Okay, look Aiden. I'm sorry I didn't listen to your full plan first before jumping to conclusions."

He still doesn't say anything. How can one person be so petty?

I try again. "Of course you wouldn't send innocent children away or lock people up for no reason. I should've assumed that to being with."

The room gets really quiet, even more than it was before. The entire atmosphere changes, and a lot of faces go blank.

"What?" I ask.

Nobody says anything. Everyone avoids eye contact with me. Other than another loud snore from Michael, the room's silent.

I look back at Aiden. "Am I missing something?"

He opens his mouth, but when he looks into my eyes, his words fall silent.

"Well?" I ask.

He looks away. "Nothing."

Nothing? Everyone looks at him, shocked.

I stare at him too, even though I don't know why. What's the problem? "Is there something... you're not saying?" I ask. I feel ridiculous for asking it though. Aiden is always honest... right?

"Of course not." He looks at me, and I immediately believe him because... Well, because it's Aiden. "There's just something else we need to talk about," he says.

I nod. "Okay, what?"

"The Dusk and Moonlight Pack."

"Are they enemies?" I ask.

"No," Axel smiles. "They're good allies."

Well that's a relief. For once, I'll get to know a pack that doesn't want me dead. But if they don't want me dead... I raise an eyebrow. "Well why do they want to meet me?"

"Since we're considering getting more involved in the war, whether or not we join it, allowing them to meet you would be a good sign of trust," Carson says, not really looking at me.
