Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 210

I try to throw it again, but there's something in her eyes that makes me stop. I tighten my grip on it. "I'm leaving," I say, because I really can't stand this girl.

Ethel shakes his head. "Look what you did, Z. You guys were really making progress."

"Yeah, yeah." She puts her hands on his shoulders and leads him out. "Get out, Ethy. Stop meddling in my business." She slams the door behind him, but not before giving me a look.

In the car, on the way to our next stop, I pull the crumpled sheet of paper out of my back pocket. I feel like I'm missing something.

"What's that?" Onai asks.

I shake my head, reading every entry again. I search for a code or key or a hidden message. She's trying to tell me something, I know it.

"A list of stupid stuff Suzie told her to do." Ethel leans back in his seat, crossing his arms. "I can't believe she did that. Give it to me. I'll throw it away for you."

I'm about to hand it over, but there's something written on the back. I pull it closer to read it.

You're not the only one who's onto them. Get me on your guard shift, you stank ass, three-timing boyfriend stealer xo

P.S. How long did it take you to realize something was on the back? Lol, be honest? *laughs and points at you*

I fold the sheet of paper quickly, stuffing it into my pocket.

Ethel raises an eyebrow.

I smile. "I've got it. I..." I try to think of something quick. "I'm gonna show my brother. He won't believe this."

"Oh, ok." Ethel sits back. "Whatever you want."

I try not to stare at him suspiciously. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I don't trust him as much as I do trust him. It's weird. I like him, at least his personality, but... I don't know. I think Michael was right. It's the people I know who hate me, like Suzie, that I can really trust.

I look at Onai. "So where are we going now?"

"To see Axel," he says.

I frown. "Why'd you say it like that?"

He gives me a look. "Where he's at."

My frown deepens. "Where is he?"

Onai frowns too. "You won't like it."

Axel is standing in the midst of the storm with three kids hanging off his legs and two gnawing on each arm. He continues to talk to the daycare lady without a care in the world. "Yeah, so it seems Aiden decided to cut the pizza room after all and..." His eyes land on me. "Mia." He smiles.

I stare at him in horror.
