What happened?
"Well?" I ask. "Do you believe me now about it?" I try.
"It would be hard not to," Michael mutters, flipping the page.
"Come on, guys. We're leaving." Onai heads downstairs.
My heart breaks into a million pieces. What did Michael do?
"You need the car, Axel?" Onai asks, halfway down the staircase.
"I'm good," Axel calls back, but he gives me a worried look.
Luca and Ethel get up to leave. "Bye, Luna, Alpha" they say on their way out.
"Bye, guys," I call back. Axel does the same. Then they're gone. The house already feels emptier. Michael's still standing there, looking like a ship-destroying, problem-causing potato, but it doesn't feel like the time to bring it up (unfortunately because I want to so badly). Maybe later when I talk to him about what Suzie wrote-
Michael makes eye contact with me.
His eyes are wide open. He looks like he's about to drop his book from how hard his hands are shaking. Even though I can't see it, because of his skin color, I know he's blushing hard enough to burn the house down. "I'm going to my room," he stutters out. "Come on, Charlie."
Charlie whines about wanting to see how the window opens and closes again, but Michael grabs him. "I said come on."
"Wait," I say. "Tell me what happened."
"No." He grabs Charlie's legos and runs to his room.
Megan raises an eyebrow. "What's wrong with him?"
I shrug. What else? Love, of course. I sigh, happily. At least one thing's gonna work out no matter what. I'll leave them alone from now on. My work here is done.
Megan shrugs back at me. "Well... See you later."
"Where are you going?" I ask.
She waves me off. "Nowhere. Just to my room to cry about my break up with Ethel on skype. See ya."
I furrow my brow, but she's already gone.
Once again, the house feels emptier. Without the chaos of everyone else around us, it reminds me that I don't know where Axel and I stand. Are we fighting? Are we not? Is this just something petty that'll blow over, or do we need to talk about this? Where's his head at, cause I'm clueless.
He doesn't say anything.
I don't want to either, but I have to. "We really haven't had a chance to be alone today," I say quietly. I feel like I'm not allowed to break the silence in the house.
He nods by the window. Then he gets up. I follow him with my eyes.
"It's fixed, so..." He gestures towards the window then heads for the door. He literally walks right past me.
I stare into thin air, where he used to be. "That's it?" I ask. I can't believe him right now.
He nods. "That's it. The window wasn't too difficult to fix it so it only took-"
