Two can play at this game. "Axel," I look at him.
He flinches.
"Did Carson blink first?" I ask.
"You're using my brother against me?" Carson screams.
I wave him off.
"Y..." Axel looks at Carson's glare. "N..."
I stare at him, willing him to say yes with my eyes.
"Carson blinked first." Axel says.
I smile.
Axel shakes his head at me. He doesn't take his eyes off me, looking at me the way those people around the couch we're looking at each other. My heart skips a beat. This is what I was talking about. I can't trust myself to know better.
But then again, with Suzie being a stinking liar, maybe I don't need to. My heart skips a beat again. They're innocent. Or at least, there aren't any reputable charges against them seeing that Suzie's so desperately to be by Carson's side despite her warnings. And let's be honest, I already knew deep down that Axel was innocent, and Aiden's only been guilty of being colder than an iceberg, so...
I tune back into the rant Carson is having about Axel.
"How could he even see?" Carson asks. "He was behind me."
Axel gives him a look.
Carson looks back at him. "What?" He looks at me. "I say we do a rematch."
Axel turns to me, waving him off. "How has the party been for you? Are you having fun?"
I nod. "I just got here, but yeah. It's been enlightening," I look towards Suzie who's still here for some reason, then back at Axel. For the first time in a long time feeling completely at peace speaking to him. Not like I'm putting myself in danger or looking obviously stupid. I walk towards Axel, bridging the extremely large distance I had required of him guided by her false allegations. I look up at him.
He raises an eyebrow. He looks at me, then to the side, clearing his throat. "Would... you like to go get a drink with me? There are fountain drinks too. It's not all..." He looks around the room at the heavy drinkers. "Toxic," he laughs.
"Where are the drinks?" I ask.
"Right over there." He points towards a kitchen area.
I look at Suzie, then Carson who's still trying to start another staring contest with me to prove he won the first time. I say no for the umpteenth time, not that, that does anything.
I nod at Axel. He smiles. I follow close by his side. The crowd once again parts.
I shake my head. What's wrong with me? Stick to one drink Mia. Focus. I think of Aiden and sigh. Even though I try not to, even with two great (okay that's debatable, I need WAY more proof, but) guys in front of me, I wonder where the third is.
Not that he'd want to talk to me or anything. Any semblance of his hurt feelings from that day has all but disappeared. He hasn't spoken to me in chem all week. He just hands me beakers and tells me not to screw things up.
He hasn't even smirked at my screw ups or misery.
"Would you like to go back to the main room?" Axel asks. "There are some games going on. Trivia. It gets pretty intense." He smiles.
Carson throws his arm over my shoulder. "But that's just the nerd corner. We could dance and drink and stuff if you'd prefer." He leans closer, smirking.
I move out of his grasp. I move closer to Axel. "Trivia sounds great."
Carson moves to my other side, nearly smacking Axel out of the way, and puts his arm around me again.
I glare at him. "Please stop."
"You heard her," Axel smiles, but he looks a little too smug towards his brother. I'm shocked. Axel?
Carson frowns, with his arm still on me. It tightens actually. He pulls me closer to him. "Why?" he asks me.
