Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 41

I narrow my eyes at her.

She smiles back at me, cockily. "Well come on. I'm not finished with what I was saying."

I look down the street, and sure enough, it looks like a frozen traffic jam. These people have no respect. I sigh and call Michael.

"Hey, I just said-" Brittany starts but I give her my pointer finger to wait.

"There you are," Michael says grumpily.

I cut him off before he can start. "Before you say anything, I'm on the way home."

"Oh? Already?" he asks.

I nod even though he can't see me. "I'm walking home with a girl named Brittany." I say very loudly so she knows that if anything happens he'll know who did it.

"Do you expect me to know who that is?" he asks.

"Yeah," I say. "Brittany with the brown hair."

He's silent for a while. "Mia... there are a million Brittanys." Michael says dryly into the phone, sounding confused.

Brittany openly chuckles.

I put my phone volume down and glare at both of them, physically and in spirit. "Well, that's who I'm with if something happens. I should be home in... I don't know. I have to check google maps."

"Don't forget to add twenty minutes for you," he chuckles, sarcastically.

"Are we seriously still fighting?" I ask.

"I don't know. Is you controller still dead and unused?"

My eyes fly open. I'm going to kill him. "I'm on my way."

"Don't bother rushing. I've already bribed Charlie with cookies and legos."

My mouth falls open. "Well-"

"Megan had some too."

I go to say something else.

"I vacuumed Mom's room! You've got no one on your side now, Mia. Have a nice walk home," he laughs into the receiver. He doesn't even sound like he's really laughing. He's just dragging it out to taunt me.

"Goodbye Michael." I go to hangup.

"Love you," he says too smugly.

"I love you too," I grumble only because you never know what could happen.

"Because of the brothers," she says, matter of factly.

I scoff. "Axel..."

She shakes her head. "Don't worry about that. He doesn't like Juliet."

I give her a look.

"I'm serious," she says. "They're just jealous because your entire life is about to change in a way they've only dreamt of, and they're the losers who have to watch it from the sidelines." She laughs maliciously.

I stare in horror.

Her head snaps to the side out of nowhere. I look in the direction and I see nothing. She randomly starts walking towards the edge of the sidewalk back towards where the brothers' house was. It's the more wooded area to the left and behind me. I look behind myself to keep her in my line of vision. "Um...?"

"Let's go to the other side of the street," she says.

"Uh, ok," I start walking. I'm generally not the kind of person you need to tell anything twice to. Act now. Ask questions later. That's the motto I live by.

I guess I'm moving too slowly though. She grabs my arms and pulls me closer, directly behind her. She stops moving across the street and stands her ground.

A huge wolf pops out. Wtf is this, twilight?

I nearly choke. My throat goes dry. I look between Brittany and the beast and try to run away. She has a death grip on me though, keeping me there. I want to tell her run. I want to scream it, but I have no words. I'm frozen. Petrified. Staring in horror at the thing baring its teeth before me. It's one of those things you think, is this happening? Is this happening again and again.
