Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 43

She raises an eyebrow at me. "A werewolf?"

"Yes," I say firmly. "It should've attacked us. It didn't. What if it was like... your mate or something? And you growled, like a wolf, so what if...?"

"Now I'm a werewolf?" she chuckles.

This sounded better in my head. "Hear me out. What if that was your inner wolf coming out? You could be a werewolf without even knowing it."

"And how exactly should I test this theory?"

I think for a moment. "How does your skin react to silver?"

"Are you crazy?" she narrows her eyes at me.

I go silent. She's right, this sounds insane, even though it's right. I nod to myself, yeah I'm not sweeping this under the rug anymore. Someone's a werewolf in this town. But still, I can't have someone thinking I'm crazy. Or worse, onto them. I fake chuckle and wave her off. "No. Of course not. I was just... speculating. Blame the adrenaline."

She nods. "But you're not serious... right?"

I shake my head. "I'd like to believe I was, but nah. I'm just joking." She's in on it.

She looks pensive. "But, maybe, it would kind of be cool if that were the case?"

Oh would you look at that, she's one of them. What is she trying to recruit me? It's my turn to raise an eyebrow. "Huh? Uh, yeah, if you weren't going to eat me or anything." I laugh, lightly, once again looking around us. That statement actually seemed a little too accurate. My eyes widen.

I back away towards the door.

She nods, rubbing her chin. "Yeah. I guess it's kind of convenient that you think so, given the circumstances."

"B-Brittany," I choke out.

She sighs. "There's a wolf behind me, isn't there?"

I fumble with my keys.

She shakes her head. "Damn that boy. Why couldn't he have just turned around like his brothers." She turns around and starts growling, but, as if someone had shoved her head down, she bows her head and steps away. Leaving me in its path.

It starts walking towards me. I shove the key into the door, but it knocks me down. My eyes start burning. It's not the white one, but it's just as big. It's almost an orangish hue. I can see its teeth. I cry out, knowing what it's going to do to me.

It gets on top of me, growling and sniffing my neck. I stay as still as possible, wishing I had kept my key in my hands to stab its eyes out.
