Ditched Cheating Alpha, I Led My Daughter to Life's Peak novel Chapter 62

The brothers, and Ethel, are clearly killing it on the court. A few people sit on the sidelines talking. Girls and guys chat while exchanging passes and shooting hoops. It's a really intense atmosphere. Every now and again they all get in sync and do drills. It's like they're one body.

"Are you feeling like trying something today?" Brittany slows down beside me, sounding excited for the first time all day. "Basketball? Volleyball?"

I shake my head. "No."

"Soccer?" Krys asks.

Outside, a few people are playing soccer. You can see them through the large windows on the far side of the gym that we're passing now. I once again shake my head. "I think I need to talk to Axel. Could you tell him?" I ask Brittany.

She looks apprehensive. "Is this another screaming fest like last time?"

I shake my head. "I just don't feel like walking into that right now." I look back down at people making a mad dash towards a ball. They're literally slamming into each other.

"Is it important?" Brittany asks.

"He lied to me," I say. I don't see any reason not to tell her.

Her and Krys exchange a look.

"What?" I ask.

Brittany shakes her head. "Nothing. I'll tell him."

I wait by the steps for Axel.

Carson is the first one up though, as uninvited as always. "What's wrong? Do you need something?" he checks my arms, my legs, my breathing.

I shake my head, pulling away from him. "I just need to talk to Axel."

"Why? Do you need something? I can help," he takes a step closer. "Water?"

I shake my head. "I just need to talk to Axel... Alone."

He stops in his tracks. He stares at me for a while, looking into my eyes. He nods, "Okay."

I nod.

"If that's what you want."

I nod because I don't owe him anything he hasn't offered me. Honesty.

"I'm busy anyway," he says.

I watch him go back down the steps, back to ordering people around. I'm not mad at him exactly, I'm just... I sigh. I just need to talk to Axel.

Axel allows Carson to pass before walking towards me. He smiles, hesitantly, "What do you need to talk about?"
