Zachary took off his jacket and wrapped it around Natasha. His hand kept rubbing her cheeks as he repeated her name over and over again.
As Natasha drifted in and out of consciousness, a figure was fighting its way toward her as if trying to stop everything from falling apart.
She didn't budge. She just sat there, silently watching that desperate figure struggle in a sea of pale white.
"I won't let anything happen to you. Wake up, please!" Zachary exclaimed.
At that moment, he truly panicked. He had no idea what to do to bring Natasha back to consciousness. In a moment of desperation, he leaned in and kissed her.
It was so cold that even his tears froze before they could fall.
The moment the cold storage door opened, Xavier saw the two of them curled up in each other's arms, clinging so tightly that they seemed fused as one.
Zachary held her wrist firmly against his neck, hoping that his body warmth could buy her a little more time.
"Quick, get them to the research institute together!" someone instructed.
Julian, Xavier, and Yancy worked together to get them out of the freezer.
…
Zachary didn't regain consciousness until the following afternoon. It was only then did he finally feel himself break free from the icy numbness.
"Mr. Foster, thank goodness you're finally awake." Julian was so relieved that he was nearly in tears.
Steven had wanted to rush to the research institute as soon as he found out Zachary had been trapped in the freezer and was unconscious. Fortunately, Julian managed to have the people at the house stop him. Someone his age couldn't bear that kind of ordeal.
Presently, Zachary caught sight of the machines attached to him, and Natasha's face flashed through his mind.
