Being a person of cold temperament, Liam couldn’t help but retort immediately to defend Joycelyn, saying, “There’s nothing going on between Joycelyn and ine. Your tricks are lowdown. Don’t hurl mud at us.” 

As Linda saw him looking antsy in explaining himself, she smiled gently and said, “How come an outsider like you managed to get into our company then? And how come you even show up in our department? Wasn’t it Joycelyn who told you all this privately?” 

“Our lab works with Grant Group. I’m a specially appointed expert and have a work permit.” 

Liam lifted the work pass hanging around his neck. “And I’ve registered at the front desk. Instead of hurling mud at others here, why don’t you honestly own up to your own responsibilities?” 

“I was just saying it casually, and you’re so nervous. Isn’t it because you have a guilty conscience?” Linda’s defensive argument was clearly an attempt to stir the pot so that she could take advantage of the confusion and avoid responsibility. 

Although Joycelyn was not particularly close to Liam, she knew he was somewhat stubborn. Now that he had come to the company, she could not completely ignore him and let him be dragged into the situation.

Linda forced an insincere smile and said, “Joycelyn caused my assistant to be fired. I was mad, so I deliberately provoked her. It doesn’t count.” 

Linda’s mental fortitude was very strong. Even though it was a nailed–down fact that she was the one who schemed against Joycelyn, she still refused to admit it. 

“William, take that pile of shredded paper out and find someone to restore it,” Ellison ordered in a serious voice. 

Once again, Linda was caught off guard. 

“Alright.” William said. “Although these pieces are torn, there are ways to restore them.” He went forward, gathered the pile of shredded papers, and took them to be reconstructed. 

At this point, Linda was completely terrified. 

She felt guilty and wanted to stop William, but he blocked her and said, “If you stop me now, it means you have a guilty conscience and today’s events were all planned by you to frame Joycelyn and the company.” 

William’s voice was powerful and authoritative. Linda staggered, and the confidence she had earlier in spinning the truth was now gone from her face. 

“Mr. Grant, you don’t believe me!” she said. Her eyes trembled as she looked at the man with a tall and elegant physique standing at the doorway. 

She began to use emotions in a manipulative way. 

Today’s celebration party and the special treatment from Ellison made Linda feel smug, thinking that she held a special.

“I only believe in facts and the truth,” Ellison said. “Are you going to confess yourself or wait for the results?” 

Standing among the crowd, Ellison exuded an air of noble authority. His blue, deep eyes fixed on Linda, his face expressionless, yet icy cold to the extreme. 

Even his voice was cold, very unfeeling. 

One remark crushed Linda’s last remaining hope. 

“Mr. Grant, I’ve been working hard for the company all these years,” she said. “Even if I haven’t made great contributions, I’ve at least worked hard, right? For the sake of a small–time employee, you’re certain that it’s me who did those things, huh? You’ll disappoint many of your loyal, long–time employees. 

The more Linda spoke, the more aggrieved she felt. Her eyes had turned teary. 

Joycelyn stood there quietly. Her calm and gentle face was expressionless, yet she was dazzlingly beautiful. 

This remark immediately denied her abilities, trying to make people think that she relied on her beauty and looks to make Ellison play favorites. 

“Being diligent all these years is truly respectable,” Joycelyn said. “But if you’ve been double–dealing all this time, that would be quite terrifying.” Her tone was calm, her expression clearly showing lingering fear. 

Linda shot her a glare, thinking, ‘She’s clearly trying to kick me while I’m down.” 

The senior executives present instinctively got flustered and thought, ‘Linda is clearly trying to muddy the waters, avoiding responsibility, and might even drag some of the company’s veterans down with her. 

“Since you’ve done your best for the company for so many years, I’ll give you a chance” Ellison relented. 

When Linda heard this, she immediately felt that there was hope. 

“I believe you, but if I find out that you’re behind this, I’ll send you straight to jail, Ellison said. 

His voice was serious and cold. As Linda heard it, the hope that had just been ignited in her was extinguished by a bucket of cold water. 

She felt as cold as if she was in an icehouse. 

“No… it wasn’t me,” she said. 

“Are you sure?” Ellison asked, his blue eyes narrowed in an instant, fixing on Linda’s face, which hadn’t fully recovered from the allergic reaction. 

Linda was terrified by that gaze. Not daring to respond, she merely shook her head. 

“William, go investigate, Ellison said. “Give me the results before you get off work.” He then turned around, no longer saying anything.
