Skylar paused, startled by his insight. 

One meeting was all it took for him to read Callias’s character and predict his behavior. And now he was offering protection. 

She had to admit he was right. 

Knowing Callias, today’s humiliation would only fuel his obsession. He’d keep pushing. 

Aiden’s concern wasn’t unfounded. 

After considering, she agreed to let him know when she went out. 

Satisfied, he led her inside. 

The moment they opened the door, Patricia set off party poppers. 

“Surprise! Welcome to Florence!” 

Skylar stumbled, startled by the noise. 

Aiden caught her elbow smoothly, brushing confetti from her hair. 

Her eyes widened at the crowd filling the living room. “What’s all this?” 

Patricia grabbed her hand excitedly. “Just some neighbors! Come meet everyone…‘ 

The evening flew by in a whirl of introductions and conversations. 

Initially awkward, Skylar gradually relaxed as Patricia’s warmth made everyone feel like 

old friends. 

After some dancing, she found a quiet corner to catch her breath, watching the party swirl 

around her.

The weight on her shoulders felt lighter here. 

Aiden appeared with two drinks, offering her one. 

“Mom loves parties. Wanted you to meet everyone. You can slip away if you’re tired – they’re used to entertaining themselves.” 

Skylar watched Patricia dancing, smiling. “It’s sweet of her. I’m having fun, actually. Their 

energy is contagious.” 

Seeing her genuine enjoyment, Aiden’s lips curved slightly. 

“Good. Sometimes you have to look forward. No use dwelling on what’s done.”
