“I want pajamas. I’ll put them on myself!” Freya huffed, puffing out her cheeks as she dodged Louis’s hand.
Seeing that she was serious, Louis didn’t push. He handed her the pajamas, though he silently vowed to ease her into her role as his wife. After all, helping your wife get dressed was perfectly normal–one of many little things a husband should do.
Freya wriggled under the covers to get changed, and Louis couldn’t help laughing at how cute she looked. But the moment he chuckled, Freya glared at him and smacked the bed in embarrassment.
“What are you laughing at? Don’t laugh! You weren’t like this before. You tricked me! Cold and aloof, dignified and untouchable–what a lie! You’re a big fat fraud!”
Still smiling, Louis scooped her up and kissed her. With his long limbs, Freya had no way to escape. All she‘ could do was let him hold her while he asked with amusement, “Other than that very first period, when was I ever cold to you?”
Freya thought for a moment. Honestly… aside from the beginning, he really had always treated her with care. Even then, he hadn’t been harsh.
She sighed and muttered, “Fine, but you used to be so reserved.”
“You’re my wife,” Louis replied gently.
With outsiders, he was cold and distant–sure. But with his wife? Of course he was different. Why would he keep up a front with her?
Freya pouted, her voice small. “I’m just scared. You’re so good to me… I’m afraid I won’t be able to live without you.”
Louis’s heart clenched and melted all at once. He kissed her forehead again.
“Then I’ll just have to be even better to you. Because I never want to be apart from you. Meeting you in this life is the greatest blessing I’ve ever had. When you’re with me, no one else even exists. So what are you worried about?”
Freya knew she was being a little dramatic, but she couldn’t help it–not today. She buried her face in Louis’s chest, mumbling softly,
“I’ve only ever loved one person in both my lives, and it’s you. If you ever change your heart, I won’t do anything to hurt you. I’ll just be really, really sad… but I’ll keep living.”
The words struck Louis like a blade to the chest. He cupped her face and kissed her deeply, only letting go when she was out of breath. His fingers brushed her cheeks as he looked into her eyes, solemn and unwavering.
“In this lifetime, it’s only you. I’ll never change. And you’re not allowed to leave me either. Got it?”
Freya nodded firmly. “Got it.”
“Good. Then we’ll never part–not ever,” he said, planting another kiss before letting her go. “Didn’t you say you wanted to get up? What do you feel like doing?”

“Honestly… not much,” Freya said as she toyed with her hair. “I’ve got drafts saved up, and I don’t feel like writing right now. How about… we play chess?”
“Anything you want. I’m all yours today.” Louis had expected her to pick a movie.
“Wait, I’ve got a better idea! Why don’t you tell me about business stuff?” Freya sat up, propping herself on her hands and scooting closer, eyes sparkling.
Louis pinched her check. “Of course. But what brought this on?”
