Chapter 127
That time, it was a joint operation involving two teams. She always stayed by herself, not talking to anyone except when assigning
tasks.
He noticed that she had a sweet tooth, always carrying chocolate with her, and getting obviously more irritable than usual once she ran
out.
At first, when he offered her some of his chocolate, she refused, just giving him a suspicious look before walking away.
It wasn’t until they became close and trusted each other with their lives that she accepted his chocolate, thanking him with her hoarse voice.
Later, he heard that she died while executing a mission, betrayed by their higher–ups, along with all her teammates in an abandoned warehouse.
When he heard the news, he felt a wave of regret, and even now, thinking about her eyes, there was still a dull ache.
The sky had started to lighten.
Jonathan took a shower, changed, and left at six o’clock.
Estelle was still in a deep sleep.
She didn’t wake up until nearly eight o’clock. When she went out, there was no one around, so she was about to go back to her room to wash up when she heard the doorbell ringing.
Opening the door, she saw the hotel delivery staff who often brought breakfast, respectfully handed over the food box, “This is the breakfast ordered by Mr. Lamont, enjoy your meal!”
Estelle thanked him, took the food box, and returned to the kitchen.
The master bedroom door was closed, and she thought Jonathan was still asleep. However, when she finished washing up and changing her clothes, she saw no sign of Jonathan.
She went to knock on the door. “Mr. Lamont, are you awake?”
“Mr. Lamont?”
No one answered. She had an idea, pushed the door open, and sure enough, Jonathan wasn’t in the room.
When had he left?
Estelle frowned a little, shrugged, and went to eat by herself.
At the Lamont Group’s office building.
After a morning meeting, Jonathan went back to his office and called Aaron. “Did you guys manipulate behind the scenes to have Hattie chosen as the lead actress in Herbert Daly’s movie?”
Today, the issue with Lina gained some attention but was quickly suppressed and disappeared within an hour.
Aaron had gotten some information and hurriedly explained, “No, we just provided Hattie with an audition opportunity. Herbert felt that Hattie was more suitable for his movie’s character than Lina, so he chose her as the lead actress. Actually, we were a bit surprised, too.”
Jonathan nodded, “I see!”
“We’ll hold Lina accountable for injuring Hattie!” Aaron reported.
“You handle it!”
Jonathan hung up the phone, and his annoyance diminished a bit. It felt as if he had been wrongfully accused, and now that he knew he was innocent, even if he didn’t explain himself, he felt relieved.
In the blink of an eye, it was Saturday. When Estelle went to Jonathan’s house, she suddenly remembered that she hadn’t seen Jonathan for four days.
During their time together, apart from their physical intimacy at night, they had no contact during the day.
