Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3685

"She's completely out of her mind!" Marina slammed her spoon down on the table, her voice shaking with fury. "Go get that swan back right now!"

Carson looked at her in mild surprise. "Why me?"

Marina glared at him. "You're the one who decided to give it to her without asking! Of course it has to be you!"

Knowing he was entirely in the wrong on that front, Carson nodded. "Fine. I'll go get it right now!"

He stood up and headed for the door. As he walked past Marina, he grabbed her by the wrist and hauled her to her feet. "I may have been the one who handed it over, but you are the bird's actual owner. It makes far more sense for us to go demand it back together!"

Marina was dragged toward the hallway. His palm was searingly hot. Before, she used to crave his touch, but now it felt like she was being burned alive. "Let go of me! I can walk!"

Carson didn't put up a fight. He released her hand immediately without a word of complaint.

When they reached the floor above, Carson knocked on the door. Lucy pulled it open almost instantly, her face lighting up with absolute delight. "Carson!"

Carson offered a perfectly polite smile. "Good morning, Ms. Rhodes."

Lucy finally noticed Marina standing right next to him. Her smile faltered as she asked, "Can I help you guys with something?"

Carson reached down and took Marina's hand, threading their fingers together. "I'm terribly sorry, but I acted out of turn when I gave you the swan the other day. My fiancée here is actually very attached to it and wants it back. If you don't mind returning it to us, I'd be more than happy to buy you a different bird as an apology."

Lucy stared at their intertwined hands, vastly more shocked by the PDA than the demand for the bird. It looked like any chance she had was officially dead in the water. They were back together!

Masking her deep disappointment with an awkward laugh, she said, "Oh, it's no problem at all! Let me go grab him. Come on in!"

"That's alright," Marina said with a tight smile. "We can just wait out here!"

Lucy retreated into the apartment. A few minutes later, she dragged the heavy metal cage out into the hallway. The swan had clearly been scrubbed down, but faint, garish streaks of neon dye still bled through its white feathers.

The poor bird was huddled miserably in the corner of the cage, stripped of all the fiery attitude it had shown just a few days prior.
