Days came and went and finally, the day of Ryan and Ivy’s engagement ceremony had arrived.
Lora, dressed in a black evening dress with cut-outs on the sides of her waist, walked into the lavishly decorated hall with Jason by her side.
“Are you sure about this? I know I accepted this invitation on your behalf but if you don’t want to be here, we can leave,” Jason remarked, looking down at Lora.
Lora shook her head and said, “It’s fine… Since you had accepted the invitation already, it wouldn’t look good if you went back on your word.”
Jason smiled and nodded, his heart resting when he saw how indifferent Lora looked.
As soon as Lora entered the hall, the guests couldn’t help but whisper about her. After all, she had been in a scandal where people shipped her and Ryan together. Seeing her attend Ryan’s engagement was shocking to some.
“Isn’t she shameless? She almost stole Miss Williams' fiance and still has the audacity to attend her engagement ceremony.”
“Can you imagine? Perhaps she’s here to cause trouble for the couple. It looks like Mr Kingsley wasn’t serious about her after all.”
“That’s men for you… it was just lust. They always return to the women they truly love.”
When Ivy saw Lora and heard what others were saying about her, her lips turned into a smug smile.
She was sparkling tonight with a shimmering sapphire blue gown that looked like a copy of the one Lora had worn during the launch party. Ivy had seen the way Ryan looked at Lora when she wore that dress and this time, she didn’t want anyone to outshine her at her own engagement ceremony.
“Lora, Jason, you came!” Ivy exclaimed excitedly like they were the best of friends as she wheeled herself to them. “I’m so glad you decided to be a part of my big day.”
Lora smiled politely but she didn’t bother to respond to Ivy.
Ivy’s smile froze, however, she didn’t mind. Lora’s reaction just proved to her that she was jealous.
“Are you happy for me, Lora? I’m marrying the most outstanding man in the city. Ryan is every woman’s dream and he chose me to be Mrs Kingsley,” Ivy remarked in a taunting voice.
“Congratulations,” Lora said indifferently. She shared a knowing look with Jason who led her away, leaving Ivy fuming at Lora’s lack of reaction.
‘Why isn’t she pissed? I got the man!’ Ivy hissed in her mind, feeling unsatisfied.
At the same time, Jason and Lora walked towards the dessert table. Jason glanced at Lora and offered, “You mentioned being hungry earlier. Let me get you something.”
As he said that, he picked a plate and placed a piece of cheesecake on it before giving it to Lora.
Lora glanced at Jason and shook her head, saying, “I’m sorry, I don’t eat cheesecake. I’m allergic.”
Jason’s eyes widened. “Oh no… I’m sorry, my love. I didn’t know.”
He placed the cheesecake back and got some fruits instead, saying, “It seems there’s a lot that I need to know about you.”
“We can know more about each other as time goes by,” Lora remarked.
As they chatted and smiled at each other, Ryan who stood in the distance was watching their interaction, anger flaring through him.
When he saw Lora refuse the cheesecake, he frowned.
