Chapter 14
Lauren had another plan today but she was more likely to see Leo. She got up early today and the servants downstairs were surprised to see her. One of them was called Edna, a very capable woman in her 30s.
Edna led Lauren to the dinning hall and Jeffery was there too. It seemed that he was thinking about something, but when he saw Lauren, he immediately changed his expression and smiled at Lauren. He said good morning.
Lauren liked staying with Jeffery. She nodded and smiled back to him, which made Jeffery even happier.
During the breakfast, Jeffery said two things. The first thing was about shares that her grandfather decided to give her last night, and she would meet with a lawyer and sign a few documents.
Lauren nodded.
Another thing was about Wendy’s dereliction of duty last night. Jeffery explained and told Lauren Monica was also involved. “They have been fired. I will not let anyone hurt you,” Jeffery said in a soft but serious voice.
Lauren was still having breakfast.
Edna was sent by Jeffery to take care of Lauren. Jeffery made great effort to find Lauren back and prepared almost everything when Lauren was back to the Bennett family.
This time, Jeffery just went back from abroad and he would help Lauren solve all the problems. Lauren was his sister and Jeffery
didn’t allow anyone to bully her.
After a while, Lauren said, “Isn’t she Sally’s assistant?”
In fact, Lauren was asking Jeffery whether Sally would be okay with that after he fired her assistant.
Jeffery did not directly answer Lauren’s question, but just said one thing, “In the second half of the year, Darren will go abroad and be an exchange student for one year.”
Lauren raised her head and looked at Jeffery in shock.
Jeffery replied with a gentle smile to her, and said, “He is an adult No matter what the reason is, he shouldn’t hurt you. This is his
punishment.”
“Lauren, you are my sister and this is your home. If you encounter anything unpleasant, just tell me. I will support you all the time no matter what happens. Remember, no one can criticize you,” Jeffery continued.
Lauren lowered her head, and cried quietly. She was lucky that Jeffery was her brother. She loved the feeling of being supported. Lauren thought she was not alone anymore. It turned out that it was not so bad to come back to the Bennett family. Here, she could get love and support from her grandfather and brother.
The maids in the dinning hall all went out, leaving Jeffery telling Lauren what happened after she was lost when she was five
years old.
“After you got lost, the whole Bennett family was in chaos. Mother was almost crazy and insane, and as long as she saw a little girl about the same age as you, she would rushed up and call her your nickname. Darren, who was less than one year old at the time,
was once almost suffocated by mother.”
“Grandpa used all means, but still couldn’t find you.”
“After a few months, mother’s situation was getting worse and worse. She even couldn’t recognize us so father took Sally back.” “Mother thought of Sally as you, and she kept her in her arms all the time.”
“After Sally arrived, mother’s situation gradually got better, and it was not until three years later that she led a normal live like
before.”
Jeffery said a lot. Lauren could imagine the chaos of the Bennett family after she was lost and could imagine her mother’s grief. And after knowing everything, Lauren didn’t know how to get along with Mrs. Bennett.
It had been 18 years since she was missing so things changed.
“Lauren,” Jeffery suddenly called her, looking at her seriously, “I’m telling you this, not for mother, but for you.”
“Me?” Lauren was surprised.
