Chapter 126 

I arrived at the company for my interview at 11:00 am. The location was a bit off the beaten path–not in the bustling CBD area, but in a suburban 

neighborhood just 20 minutes from my place. 

I was familiar with this company as they specialized in lighting programming and had once bid on the amusement park project, though they weren’t selected. 

Even when the amusement park’s lighting had issues, I even considered reaching out to them for help. 

These experiences kept them on my radar. So, when they posted a marketing position that suited me perfectly, I jumped at the chance. 

They were the first company I applied to, and soon enough, they were the first to offer me the job. 

The company operated out of a rented office building. It wasn’t quite the skyscraper that Gildon Corporation had, but it was sizable enough to occupy three floors. 

I took the elevator and followed the signs to the HR office. 

As soon as I walked in, a man greeted me with a smile, saying, “You must be Ms. Crown. Are you here for the interview?” 

I offered a smile and nodded. “Yes. That’s me.” 

“Please, have a seat.” The man, in his 30s, had an average but friendly look 

about him. His warm demeanor left a strong impression. 

A smile was indeed the simplest gesture of kindness. 

“You’re our only interviewee today,” he said, clarifying why he recognized me immediately. 

“Nice to meet you,” I said before extending my hand. 

He seemed slightly taken aback but quickly shook it and introduced himself. 

“I’m Xander Roulder. I’ve gone over your résumé, and it matches our needs perfectly. I’d like to hear what you’re looking for,” he said professionally.

I had noticed his name tag while I shook his hand–HR Manager and Vice 

President. 

I was interviewing for the head marketing director position. It made sense that he was the one interviewing me, but it felt strange that I ran into him the moment I arrived, almost as if he’d been waiting just for me. 

Realizing they might urgently need someone like me, I decided to set aside my suspicions and get straight to the point. 

“Salary, vacation, and I’d like to know more about the company’s development plans. Let’s start with the first two, and if we’re aligned, we can discuss the last 

one.” 

Like any other candidate, my main concerns were pay and time off. 

Xander poured a glass of water and placed it in front of me.. 

“We’ve reviewed your résumé. We know you worked as an executive assistant at Gildon Corporation before. While we can’t match that salary, we do offer performance–based bonuses.” 

I wasn’t surprised. 

Xander continued, “Your monthly salary will be 30 thousand dollars with an annual bonus of 0.3% based on yearly performance. Insurance and holiday benefits are standard. Do you have any questions, Ms. Crown?” 

“None,” I replied. 

The monthly salary was 10 thousand dollars less than at Gildon Corporation, about a quarter less, but I agreed. This company wasn’t in the same league as Gildon Corporation, and if they matched my previous salary, it would have felt 

suspicious. 

Moreover, while I was technically an assistant at Gildon Corporation, everyone. knew I was the future boss‘ partner, which justified my pay.
