Daughters always confided in their mothers first when they found someone they liked. But Lisa kept it all to herself.
Martha's eyes welled up at her apology. She turned her face away, trying hard not to break down in tears.
Seeing this, Lisa pulled her hand back and sat down beside Martha, linking her arm. "Mom, if you're angry, just hit me."
She even tried to guide Martha's hand to strike her, but Martha didn't move.
"Mom…" Lisa's voice choked up as she looked at her.
Martha tried to pull her arm free from Lisa's grasp. "It's getting late. You should go."
Go?
She hadn't even said anything. What did that mean? Was she against them being together?
Now that everything was out in the open, Lisa decided to make it clear. She stayed seated, unmoving. "Mom, I want to be with Uncle Logan. If you don't approve, then there's no way we can keep seeing each other. Either he goes back abroad, or I'll go there to study."
"What? Are you threatening me?" Martha, previously calm, was now provoked by Lisa's words.
Her tone even made Baldwin flinch.
Logan wanted to say something, but Baldwin shot him a look to stop him.
"It's not a threat—it's just the only option. Otherwise, it'll be awkward for us to see each other every day. And it wouldn't sit right with you and Dad either," Lisa explained softly.
"You are threatening me. You're saying that if I don't agree, I'll lose you both at once," Martha said, tears finally streaming down her face.
She sobbed. "I raised you two, and this is how you repay me."
