Chapter 19 Just Because I’m Her Husband
Seeing Ashton acting all mysterious, Layla replied coolly, “I don’t want to know.”
This answer seemed to catch Ashton off guard.
“You don’t want to know?”
Im not interested,” she reiterated.
Regardless of who was teaching, her goal was to be a diligent student and graduate smoothly.
“Do you know who I am? Ashton asked.
“Mr. Baxter, the director just mentioned it.” Layla responded.
“And you still dare to talk to me like that? Ashton challenged.
Layla turned her head and looked at Ashton seriously. “Sorry, but we’re in class now.”

Intrigued. Ashton was about to lean closer to continue the conversation when Fedrick, from the podium, adjusted his glasses and pointed at Ashton in the back row. The student in the back, stop flirting with your classmate during class!”
No way! I’ve got to protect the woman my buddy likes!
Though Ashton frowned in displeasure, he didn’t lose his temper when he looked at Fedrick
It was clear that Athena University wasn’t taking any chances with these privileged students. They brought in someone like Fedrick, who had the nerve and connections to handle them.
After all, Fedrick was backed by Zane
Zane might not seem powerful in Hastin, but since Flynn Thomson acknowledged him, Zane had firmly established his footing in the city.
Zane was a force to be reckoned with.
Many businesses had skeletons in their closets, and they often relied on Zane to make those skeletons disappear.
His influence was such that no one dared to challenge him.
“Alright, everyone, let’s start with some introductions to get acquainted. We’ll be spending a lot of time together,”
Fedrick put on a friendly face.
Everyone took turns introducing themselves, each boasting proudly about their family businesses, mining operations of achievements from studying abroad.
When it was Layla’s turn, she simply stated, “I’m Layla Kennedy”
After her brief introduction, she stepped down from the podium.
The students exchanged glances, seemingly reaching a consensus.
Rumors circulated that Layla, Logan’s wife, had used his connections to secure her spot at Athena University.
Despite her attractiveness, some students still regarded her with contempt.
“Ashton Baxter.”
Following suit, Ashton simply stated his name before also stepping back.
Layla, perceived as a married woman who allegedly benefited from connections, and Ashton, known as one of Hastin’s most infamous and aggressive rich kids, were both believed to have used their connections to enter the class.

“Wait for me at the Building Two entrance after class, Ashton suddenly said.
Layla remained silent.
As the introductions concluded swiftly, Ashton promptly left the room under Fedrick’s watchful gaze.

Layla took her time, pretending to organize her notes. Once the room emptied, Fedrick hurried down from the podiurn and inquired, “Miss Kennedy, when did you become involved with Ashton, that little tyrant?”
“Involved? Not at all, Layla replied innocently.
“Cut it out. Don’t think I can’t see through you. You’re trying to get close to him. Miss Kennedy, I advise you not to mess with that little tyrant. He has Jonathan backing him.”
“Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. Thanks.”
With that, she grabbed her backpack and left the classroom.
Fedrick wasn’t entirely mistaken–she did intend to get close to Ashton.
While everyone knew Ashton’s brother, Jonathan Baxter, was a ruthless figure, they overlooked the challenge posed by Ashton in the future. If she could befriend Jonathan early on, it would make her future much smoother.
However, Jonathan had a different disposition. Flattery and ingratiating behavior would likely repel him.
Essentially, Jonathan and Logan were very similar. In her past life, she had tried to please Logan endlessly, only to end up being despised. He showed her disdain even in her final moments.
Yet, the moment she stopped trying, he relentlessly pursued her.
Therefore, Layla deliberately avoided the main entrance of Building Two, choosing not to meet up with Ashton.
As nightfall approached. Layla woke up feeling drowsy, only to discover that heavy rain was pelting against the windows.
She had always been frail, and rainy days often made her feel feverish
Just as she contemplated venturing out to purchase some medicine, she noticed a pristine white note resting on the bedside table. It contained instructions detailing the availability of everyday medicines in the drawer.
After opening it, she found an assortment of cold, fever, and pain relief medications neatly arranged inside.
Is this also prepared by Zanet
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Logan calling-
Layla answered, and Logan’s cold voice came through. “Where did you go?”
“Today was my first day of school. I’ve moved out from home,” Layla responded.
“Who gave you permission to move out?”
Logan’s tone dripped with icy anger.
Feeling terribly unwell, Layla chose not to engage in an argument and promptly ended the call with Logan.

After taking some medicine, she drifted into a deep sleep.
The next morning, she still had a terrible headache. The drizzle outside hadn’t stopped, but she didn’t want to be late on her first day.
As she approached the entrance of Building Two, dizziness overwhelmed her, and the damp air made it difficult for her to breathe.

In a haze, she looked up to see Ashton glaring at her icily. His voice was sharp as he demanded, “Where were you yesterday!”
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t play dumb. I told you to wait for me outside Building Two Where were you?”
“I never agreed to wait for you, Mr. Baxter.”
Layla’s dizziness was intensifying, and she was barely holding on to consciousness,
Unrelenting, Ashton continued, “No one’s ever dared to defy me like this. Layla, right? Do you think I won’t-
He raised his fist, intending to intimidate her, but Layla’s eyes fluttered closed, and she collapsed into his arms.
Ashton was stunned, momentarily at a loss. “Hey! Layla Stop messing around!”
JAstonished, Ashton shook her gently, realizing just how fragile she felt, as if she might break with the slightest touch.
When she remained unresponsive, he touched her feverish forehead.
He paused.
She is running a fever?
Realizing this, he quickly scooped her up into his arms. But before he could take a step, someone grabbed his shoulder.
Put her down
The voice behind him was icy and menacing.
Ashton frowned and turned to see Logan holding an umbrella.
Besides his brother, Jonathan, not many in Hastin had such a commanding presence.
“Logan?
Ashton’s expression turned disdainful. “Why should I?”
“Because I’m her husband”
Logan’s deep eyes radiated an extreme danger.
At the mention of “husband,” Ashton froze in disbelief.
Logan let go of his umbrella and took Layla from Ashton’s arms. His secretary, Leo, swiftly raised another umbrella and followed closely.
Ashton remained rooted to the spot, his mind reeling
Layla is Logan’s wifer
At the hospital, Layla slowly regained consciousness, and it was still overcast outside with rainy weather.
She vaguely remembered being cornered by Ashton at the entrance of Building Two. What happened after that?
Struggling to sit up, she noticed Logan asleep nearby, his head propped on his hand.
“Miss Kennedy, you’re awake?”
Leo walked in carrying a briefcase.
Logan opened his eyes and noticed Layla awake in the hospital bed.
