Mafia's Rebellious Bride: His Forbidden Obsession novel Chapter 26

I nibbled on my breakfast, my mind still spinning from what had happened in the morning. My skin burned where Nikolai had touched me.

The scent of freshly baked bread, eggs, and coffee filled the air, but my stomach was in knots. I barely had any appetite. I knew there were more important things to focus on, but my thoughts kept drifting back.

I needed Nikolai to leave home as soon as possible so I could think of ways to find the basement key. I needed to reach Dimitri to learn the whole truth.

If I wanted to, I could easily escape Nikolai, but it would be useless. First, he wouldn't let me go far until he was ready, and second, Dimitri was still in his cage.

“Mmm...” Nikolai chewed on his food, which caught my attention.

He sat across from me, having his breakfast. Dressed in his black suit and ready for work, his green eyes gleamed with something dark and unreadable.

“Something going on in that little head of yours?” he asked, his voice laced with teasing.

I simply shook my head, unwilling to converse with him. Although I kept telling myself that what I did last night was to save Dimitri, I couldn't shake off the guilt.

“That’s hard to believe. After all, last night was quite... eventful,” Nikolai chuckled.

I inhaled deeply and gave him a sharp glare, my fingers tightening around the fork. I wanted to pretend it never happened, but he wasn't making it easy for me.

“I would advise you to eat your breakfast properly because you genuinely need energy for the things waiting for you,” he said, a smirk curling on one side of his lips as he winked. Silence fell between us as he focused on his meal.

Once he finished, he set his fork aside and wiped his mouth clean.

“Are you not going to college today?” he asked.

“I don't feel like going,” I replied clearly.

“Or the purpose of attending college lies in the basement,” he smirked.

My eyes narrowed at him, but I decided not to retaliate. I just wanted him to leave as soon as possible so I could execute my plan.

“I’m leaving for work,” he said with a sigh as he stood up.

“You accepted me as your husband last night. Won't you hug me and wish me a good day?” he asked.

“No!” I said it straightforwardly.

He merely chuckled in response.

“Expected,” he said.

I let out a sigh of relief when he turned to leave. However, he stopped and faced me again.

“I just wanted to tell you...” He paused, looking deep into my eyes. “Curiosity can be dangerous. You should expect the unexpected.”

One of my eyebrows lifted. Did he suspect something?

“Are you trying to scare me?” I scoffed.

“I’m trying to protect you,” he murmured. “But you never listen, do you?”

Rolling my eyes, I stood up. He glanced at me from head to toe before buttoning up his coat and walking out of the house.

I sighed heavily.

A maid looked at me suspiciously as she came to pick up the dishes.

Ugh!

I had to wait for her to leave as well.
