Chapter 107 Finding Her Home
“Mrs. Yannis, even though you’re out of the danger zone, you should really stay a few more days for observation. Don’t worry about the hospital bills…”
“Oh no, Dr. Dean, you’ve got it all wrong. It’s not about the money. I’m feeling so much better now, and there’s really no point in taking up a hospital bed when I don’t need to.”
Abigail was just reaching Adela’s door when she caught her voice drifting through the crack. She sounded way more energetic than when she’d first been admitted–definitely a good sign.
After a quick knock, Abigail pushed the door open.
Adela had been mid–conversation with Charles, but the moment she spotted Abigail, her whole face lit up like a Christmas tree. “Abigail! What brings you here?”
Seeing her smile helped Abigail’s tension melt away. “I came to check on you. Why are you in such a rush to leave? Wouldn’t it be safer to stay under observation for a couple more days?”
“I’m done with this place,” Adela said firmly. “I’m feeling way better, and whatever recovery’s left, I can do it just fine at home.
“We kept this hospital visit on the down–low from Eddie. He’s been away making deliveries all week and gets back today. I

don’t want him finding out I was hospitalized. He’ll just beat himself up over it.”

Since Adela was mostly recovered anyway, maybe it was better to keep Eddie in the dark. There was no need to make him feel guilty.
Still worried, Abigail turned to Charles. “Dr. Weber, is my mom. really okay to be discharged?“.
Hearing her call Adela “mom” so naturally in front of Charles made Adela tear up a bit, her eyes getting misty.
“Mrs. Yannis is recovering pretty well,” Charles reported, all business. “Home rest should be fine, but she needs to take it easy and keep up with her meds.”
Finally, Abigail could breathe again. That was exactly what she’d been hoping to hear.
“If you don’t want to stay at the hospital, let’s get you home to rest,” she told Adela. “I drove here, so I can give you guys a ride.”
Adela’s heart swelled at the offer, but she couldn’t help
worrying. “You rushed over here after working all day. Isn’t that too much?”
Abigail just flashed her a smile. “It’s no big deal. Work wasn’t that rough today.”
Adela couldn’t take her eyes off Abigail, gently running her

thumb over the back of her hand. A flash of guilt crossed her face.

“Abigail…” she said softly, “we saw that viral video making the rounds. We really let you down…”
Bringing this up made Adela feel guilty all over again. She blamed herself for not raising Caroline better, for letting her hurt Abigail like that.
Abigail gently patted Adela’s hand. “Hey, she made her own choices. You don’t need to apologize for her.”
Seeing how mature Abigail was only made Adela’s heart ache more for her.
“Look, Abigail… there’s another reason I was in such a rush to get out of the hospital,” Adela said.
Abigail had a feeling this was about her, so she just nodded encouragingly. “Go on?”
Adela leaned forward, dead serious. “Now that Caroline’s back with the Winchester family, there’s no way they’re going to make things easy for you there. So if you want… you can come home with us. Anytime. Our door’s always open.”
The offer hit Abigail right in the feels.
She’d thought she’d found her future home with Marcus, that tiny family they were building together. But that was before she knew he’d been playing her the whole time.

Just when she thought she had nowhere left to turn, the Yannis. family had quietly been planning everything out for her.
When Abigail didn’t respond right away, Adela’s voice went soft with uncertainty. “Look, we might not be as loaded as the Winchester family, but we’re your real family here. We’d never hurt you, sweetheart. So what do you say?”
Abigail’s eyes welled up with tears, her voice catching. “Yes! Of course I want to!”
Money had never been what mattered to her anyway. Getting to be part of a loving family like the Yannis–that was the real jackpot!
“That’s my girl!” The joy brought a healthy flush to Adela’s cheeks as she let out a happy laugh. “Then let’s head home together today! You haven’t tried my cooking yet. I’ll whip something up myself. It’s about time we had a proper family dinner!”
Troy, who’d been listening the whole time, started bouncing around like an excited puppy. “Abigail, you’re in for a treat! Mom hardly ever cooks, but when she does, we’re gonna feast like kings!”
William wasn’t big on words, but Abigail could tell he was stoked, too. He was even humming while packing up their stuff.
When it was time to leave the hospital, the Yannis boys went full gentleman mode, swooping in to grab every single bag before

Abigail could even think about helping.
That left Abigail on Adela duty, keeping her steady as they walked.
