Mia pondered, “No, it has to be a mistake. I must have misheard. I have been coming to the Fitzgerald Villa every week to treat Jaxson. If Mr. Fitzgerald has gotten married, how could I not have caught wind of it?”

Mia thought, “I can’t afford to lose my position. How else can I stay close to Mr. Fitzgerald?”

“Mr. Fitzgerald, please give me another chance,” Mia pressed on earnestly. “I’ve treated Jaxson for three years. No one knows his condition better than I do. Replacing me suddenly could be a shock to him.”

She thought, “Surely, for the sake of Jaxson, Mr. Fitzgerald will compromise.”

But Marcus‘ lips curved into a mocking smile. “If you truly cared about him, would you not know that forcing sedatives on a child can cause severe psychological trauma?”

Mia’s eyes darted nervously as she tried to justify herself. “But Jaxson gets so agitated during his episodes. Letting him continue like that could harm his health too. What else could I do if not sedate him?”

Marcus didn’t bother to entertain her excuses any longer. His voice was final as he said, “I hired you to help him heal, not to hurt him. Now, will you leave on your own, or do I need to have someone escort you out?”
