As he breathed a soft sigh, it betrayed the worry on his face. "Had I known better, I would have moved heaven and earth to rope him into Island Watch. Look at this now—we're part of the same family, but I'm the subordinate instead."

Turning away from the doorway, he heaved yet another sigh. He was no longer lost in his reflection, his hefty frame heading off to begin the preparations for the upcoming events.

At the entrance of Island Watch, well-dressed soldiers emerged one after another—this time with vibrant carpets and festive arrangements instead of weaponry, leading the groups of people on the street to comment.

"What’s going on with Island Watch?"

"Might have an important person arrive? Why all the grandeur?"

"These cowards who prey on the weak are finally getting their comeuppance!"

The soldiers of Island Watch remained expressionless and headed on their own way.

As the minutes ticked by, a commanding figure appeared in the distance. Behind him was a group of powerful, imposing men.

The bystanders who had gathered near Island Watch’s gates to watch the spectacle quickly scattered.

"Such a large team! Which dock is it coming from?"

"No idea! Haven’t the docks and Island Watch always been at odds?"

"Looks like the tides are shifting for the island!"

Just as Matthew's tall, handsome frame gradually approached, the bystanders' silhouettes quickly vanished. Maintaining a calm expression, he observed the Island Watch soldiers who had lined up to welcome him. Flanking him was Allyson, who gazed at such a scene with a twinge of nostalgia. Her memories flickered, knowing that the last time she witnessed such a spectacle was a decade ago before Casimir ended her father's life.

As Emberhold Syndicate had many members, there was no reason for Matthew to kill them all. Rather, it was highly likely that he would want to stabilize the group than disband them.

"I’ll arrange for the reception of the Emberhold Syndicate members," Bram continued. "Don't worry, Mr. Larden. It's almost noon, though. Perhaps, you'd like to join us for a meal?"

There was a flicker of amusement in Matthew's eyes as he nodded. Bram’s knack for diplomacy reminded him of Errol back in Dewsbury, and not to mention, they did not share deep grudges between them.

Bram neither supported nor stopped Reuben when Reuben was causing trouble—even to the point of disallowing Island Watch to take further aggressive actions after the fact. At that, Matthew was willing to accord Bram with some leeway to flesh out Bram's true intentions.

After entering the lobby of Island Watch, the servants brought out plate after plate of food. Although these were common dishes elsewhere, they were considered luxurious here and unaffordable for the average Joe.

"Everyone, leave!" Bram commanded.
