Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 549

Selena was taken aback.

Dr. Campbell had just mentioned getting in touch with a lawyer earlier that morning, so how on earth had the divorce papers shown up already? Was it all about being efficient, or had this been in the works beforehand?

She was suspicious but knew she couldn't throw Dr. Campbell under the bus in front of Everett. She gathered her thoughts and pressed on, "Even if we do end up divorced, Mateo is still my son. I have the legal right to see him, and you can't take that away from me."

"Visitation rights?"

Everett chuckled, as if he'd heard the most ridiculous thing ever.

"Selena, do you really think I'm like your Callum, all gentlemanly and saint-like?"

His words dripped with sarcasm. "You always say I've got a bad temper, that I'm a tyrant, arrogant. So why on earth would I keep giving in to your demands?"

"You and Callum keep testing me. Do you seriously think I'm some pushover you can just boss around?"

He crumpled up the divorce papers and tossed them in the trash with a flourish.

His voice turned icy, "Mateo's with me. He'll be just fine without you. And as for the future, don't worry. I'll make sure he has a good mother, someone who won't walk out on him, who'll be there to watch him grow up happy."

"You go on and chase your happiness. After all, kids? You can always have more, can’t you?"

"Everett!"

Selena was seething, her cheeks flushed with anger. "You..."

She was ready to lash out, but the jerk didn't give her a chance, hanging up with a click.

And when she tried calling back, all she got was a cold automated voice: "The number you have dialed is not in service..."

When Mateo's breathing was calm and steady, Kate turned off the light and quietly closed the door behind her.

But just as she left, little Mateo, who seemed sound asleep, suddenly opened his eyes wide.

His gaze was sharp, no sign of drowsiness.

He quickly got up, grabbed the small backpack he’d hidden under the bed, and quietly made his way out.

He was planning his escape.

He didn't want to stay here.

He needed to find his mom!
