Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 696

When Selena realized she was the childhood savior Everett had been searching for, Alex was taken aback even more than she was. She was so caught off guard that she blurted out, without thinking, “Wait, are you really Mr. Everett’s first love? This is just like those cheesy dramas I binge every night!”

Quickly realizing her slip-up, she covered her mouth in embarrassment. Selena, however, wasn't bothered by the outburst. She was too overwhelmed herself, with a whirlwind of questions buzzing in her mind. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath to calm herself, and then asked, “If Everett remembers his childhood savior, why doesn’t he remember me? Alex, do you have any idea?”

Alex did have some insights. “The heart Everett received in his first transplant was donated by his brother—you knew that, right? His brother died in an accident, and Everett found out about it just before his surgery. The emotional blow, on top of the surgery risks, caused him to lose his memory.”

Everett remembered the incident itself but not the details, which left him searching fruitlessly for his first love all these years.

Selena was floored by the flood of information. She had always believed Everett had simply forgotten her promise, leaving her heartbroken for so long. Turns out, it was the aftermath of the heart transplant that erased her from his memory. Yet, Everett had never stopped looking for her.

A wry smile crept onto her face. Fate sure had a twisted sense of humor. If only Everett had remembered her back then, they wouldn't have lost so many years. But now, everything was different.

Shaking off the past, she pressed on, “So, if Everett doesn’t remember, why does he think it’s Yasmine?”

Selena muttered, “She recounted the details of their time together?”

Alex nodded firmly. Selena leaned against the headboard, gazing out into the night. Unlike the star-filled southern skies, the northern sky was a vast, dark canvas, pressing heavily on her heart.

A sense of foreboding settled within her. She feared the truth wouldn’t be something she wanted to face. Just as she was about to speak, Blaine strode in confidently.
