He cut straight to the chase, not wasting a single word.
Selena was left speechless. “Mr. Everett, may I remind you, it hasn’t even been 24 hours yet.”
He responded as if it was the most natural thing. “Exactly, you’ve been mulling it over for almost 24 hours. Haven’t made up your mind yet?”
Ah, men!
When they're chasing a woman, they'll say and do just about anything.
Selena didn’t want to entertain this any longer. “If there's nothing else, I'm tired and need to get some sleep.”
With that, she ended the call.
Soon after, her phone buzzed with a message.
[Selena, don’t take too long to think about it.]
[I’d appreciate a reply by tomorrow.]
Selena chuckled, placing her phone face-down on the table, and settled in with a book.
The next morning, feeling recharged, Selena headed off to work.
Even though she started her career a bit later than most, and had some natural talent, she still needed to get a handle on running the company. So, she put in the effort, working diligently.
Before she knew it, dusk had crept in.
Holt stepped into the room, asking, “Miss, would you like to order in for dinner, or would you prefer to eat at home?”
“Let’s do dinner at home.”
After all, she had kids and couldn’t let work keep her from them.
Holt nodded, “Alright, I’ll have the driver bring the car around.”
Selena gathered her files, picked up her bag, and headed downstairs with Holt.
Unexpectedly, Levi was waiting by the car as they exited the building. Seeing Selena, he walked over with a smile.
“Ms. Selena, about last night, Mr. Abraham would like to invite you to dinner to apologize.”
Holt's eyes immediately showed a hint of caution.
Selena furrowed her brows slightly. Despite Levi’s friendly demeanor, he had an air of insistence that made it hard to refuse.
It seemed she couldn’t dodge this dinner.
The two sat down.
Abraham’s gaze was intense, not caring if it made others uncomfortable. His intentions were clear.
“Selena, about yesterday, I apologize for mistaking you for someone else.”
Despite his words, there wasn’t an ounce of sincerity in his tone.
Selena’s hand tightened slightly.
“As for yesterday’s incident, I’ll look into it thoroughly and make sure you’re treated fairly. You won’t have suffered for nothing.”
Selena gave a light laugh. “Thanks in advance, Mr. Abraham.”
Abraham surely caught the sarcasm in her words, but he didn’t care. Her thoughts didn’t matter, as long as she eventually came around.
Dinner was a struggle for Selena, her stomach churning as she forced herself to eat.
Abraham elegantly wiped his lips, then fixed his gaze on her with a possessive intensity.
He stated, word by word, “Selena, I’m interested in you. You know that, right?”
