Selena was taken aback. After everything that went down yesterday, she thought he'd dial it back a notch. Instead, he went all in, showing his true colors. It was clear he was used to getting his way.
Taking a deep breath, Selena tried to keep her cool. "Mr. Abraham, you've got a wife, and I've got two kids. Sure, I'm single, but my world revolves around my children now. Romance just isn't on my radar."
Her words were gentle but firm. "I appreciate your interest, but I'm afraid I have to decline."
Abraham didn't seem fazed. He leaned back, looking completely at ease, and took a long drag from his cigar, his eyes never leaving Selena, like she was some kind of prize.
In his silence, there was an undeniable air of authority. Most folks would crumble under such pressure, but Selena had dealt with her fair share of overbearing men. Years with Everett had toughened her up.
She managed a soft smile, standing her ground.
After a pause, Abraham flicked his cigar ash and spoke again. "My wife and I have been living separate lives for ages. That's not going to stand in our way."
Selena almost laughed. Powerful men sure had a knack for missing the point. They did whatever they pleased, oblivious to anyone else's feelings or consent.
Her expression turned serious. "Mr. Abraham, let me be clear. I'm not interested in getting involved with a married man. Whatever's going on between you and your wife is your business, not mine."
As he leaned in, aiming for a kiss, Selena pulled back with all her might, stepping away from his sudden move.
Her fists clenched, her composure finally slipping. "Mr. Abraham, show some respect!"
Her voice shook with anger.
Abraham felt a twinge of regret. As he got close, he had caught a hint of her subtle scent, so different from his other affairs.
