Dr. Stone had been chatting with her for nearly three hours, and when he finally handed over the diagnosis, he was pretty taken aback.
"Ms. Selena, when you came for your follow-up six months ago, everything was looking good. You didn't even need the meds anymore. But now, things have taken a dramatic turn for the worse..."
Selena gave a resigned smile, "Six months ago, I was hoping my love would return. Now, he's back, but... he's not the person I was hoping for."
"I tried, at first, to love him again, but I realized he's reverted to the person I dreaded most. I'm too scared to love him again, too afraid of being abandoned once more, afraid that I'll never be his first choice."
"I want to escape. As long as I guard my heart, I won't get hurt. But he won't let me. He doesn't love me, yet always demands love from me. Doctor, I'm exhausted. I really don't know what to do..."
"Now, every time we're close, I feel nothing. He's unhappy, and so am I. I go along with him, try to appease him, but it's useless. Nothing works."
She and Everett were caught in a vicious cycle again.
What she wanted and what he wanted were never on the same page.
They were always out of sync.
In the end, they were like two porcupines; the closer they tried to get, the more they hurt each other, leaving scars.
Dr. Stone did his best to comfort Selena and increased her medication, reminding her to keep a positive mindset and try to stay cheerful.
Finally, he made a suggestion that left Selena stunned for a moment before she nodded in understanding.
"Got it, thank you, Doctor."
...
As she stepped out of the consultation room, a familiar figure was waiting at the door.
Selena looked up, first surprised, then a smile spread across her face. "Dr. Campbell, when did you get back?"
Callum had previously taken Everett abroad for treatment. Even though Everett had returned home after recovering, Callum stayed behind to continue his medical research.
Callum smiled, "I got back last night, just visiting family."
Haley, who had been too young to remember Callum before, wasn't the least bit shy now. Perhaps she thought he was handsome, as she ran over, clinging to his leg, refusing to let go.
Drooling slightly, she exclaimed, "Uncle, you're so handsome!"
Selena could only shake her head.
It seemed Haley was destined to fall for good looks in the future, purely judging by appearances!
Laughter occasionally echoed through Crescent Bay, creating a warm and joyful atmosphere.
Everett returned to Crescent Bay at nine that evening.
As his sleek black Bugatti rolled into the driveway, he could hear the laughter from inside, along with a man's voice.
His brow furrowed sharply.
Was Rhett here again?
