Ava confidently reported, "I've gathered all the staff here, and the villa's been sealed off since this afternoon. No one's getting in or out." Her efficiency put Selena at ease.
The staff, who had been whispering among themselves, were now wide-eyed with surprise. Their madam, whom they believed to be dead, was neither a ghost nor a figment of their imagination—she was back, very much alive. This was baffling, especially since she had been declared dead earlier that day.
Ava handed Selena a steaming cup of chamomile tea, which she gratefully accepted. As she drank, warmth spread through her, and she surveyed the room with a lazy gaze. Suddenly, she slammed the cup onto the coffee table with a loud thud, commanding immediate silence and respect without uttering a word.
The staff stood up straight, their whispers dying instantly.
"Joy's been taken by the police," Selena announced firmly. "Whoever took her money and fed her information, step up now."
The room erupted in shocked murmurs. So this was why they'd been gathered.
After a tense pause, no one confessed.
Ava, seeing their hesitation, snapped, "Our madam's always been kind, treating you well and paying you generously. Yet, some of you chose to betray her for that woman outside. It's like you've lost your conscience!"
"Whoever's responsible, own up now, or when we find you, you'll be facing jail time!"
From the second-floor railing, Alexa watched the unfolding drama in silence.
Still, no one stepped forward.
Selena chuckled softly, "You think just because Joy's caught, you're safe as long as you keep quiet?"
"I wanted to give you a chance to confess, maybe even show some leniency. But if you're stubborn and think you can escape, then... don't blame me for what happens next."
She shot a look at Ava, who immediately understood. She moved forward, grabbing one of the staff members whose eyes betrayed their guilt, and brought them to Selena.
