Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire novel Chapter 868

The man's voice was rich and soothing, like a gentle breeze that softly reached Selena's ears.

"Are you alright?"

For a moment, Selena was lost in Everett's intense gaze. But she quickly snapped back to reality, her vision clearing as she stood taller, subtly putting some distance between them.

"I'm fine."

Even though her actions were barely noticeable, Everett could sense her chill and reluctance. He wasn't surprised; he'd expected this reaction when he made his earlier decision.

With everything that had unfolded today, he knew she was worn out. Although he had a lot he wanted to say, rushing it wouldn't help.

In a gentle tone, Everett offered, "Let me drive you home. The situation with Holt might take a while to sort out."

Selena was indeed exhausted, and she had more to deal with. The day was far from over.

She didn't refuse.

Everett's car was parked by the curb. They both got in, and Selena leaned back, eyes closed, clearly in no mood to chat.

Everett glanced at her profile, turned up the air conditioning, and drove steadily towards Moon Bay.

Once they arrived at the entrance, Selena murmured a thank you, handed back Everett's jacket, and stepped out, heading straight inside.

Everett exited the car too but didn't follow her. He leaned against the vehicle, watching her retreating figure until she vanished through the door. Only then did he take out a pack of cigarettes and light one.

The smoke drifted away on the breeze, slightly blurring his handsome face.

He let out a bitter chuckle.

It seemed winning her heart would be a long road...

Seeing her now, Ava forgot all about maintaining her authority as the housekeeper in front of the staff. She cried like a child, tears and snot streaming down her face.

Selena's eyes welled up too. She raised her hand to hug Ava back.

This old lady... she was as dear to her as family.

For years, Ava had been by her side, wailing outside the operating room, believing she was truly gone.

Ava had been crucial in fooling Joy.

Selena gently patted her back, soothing her, "Alright, alright, I'm here, aren't I? Stop crying—everyone's watching. Aren't you worried about your reputation?"

Since becoming the housekeeper, Ava had always maintained a strict demeanor to keep the staff in line. Now, as someone of status, she naturally cared about her image.

Ava sniffled, quickly wiping her tears, then led Selena to the living room to sit down.
